Sioux County, Iowa Labor Survey
1993

A labor survey was conducted in Sioux County during the first half of 1993. The survey was conducted under the auspices of a combined group of local individuals and organizations interested in the economic development of the area. The expertise and assistance of several state and regional agencies were used in conducting the survey.

The purpose of the survey was to determine the number of persons interested in working for new or expanded industry and to examine the characteristics of that available work force. Survey forms were mailed to 13,512 households. A total of 2,462 persons responded and 1,857 indicated they were available to work in new or expanded business.

Some of the results of this survey are listed below.


Eighty-nine Percent are High School Graduates

Among the 1,857 individuals interested in employment, 1,661, or 89 percent, are high school graduates. A total of 1,067, or 57 percent, have some college education. There were 267 with four years of college, and an additional 191 indicated five or more years of college.

Age of Available Work Force

Forty-three percent of those available for work are between the ages of 20 and 39 years. Another 30 percent are between ages 40 and 54. Ten persons did not respond to this section.
