Definitions for various internet terms:


Document Type Definition (DTD):
is a set of declarations that define a document type for an SGML family markup language.
ICANN:
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is responsible for coordinating the Domain Name System (DNS), Internet number resources such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs), space allocation, protocol identifier assignment, generic (gTLD) and country code (ccTLD), Top-Level Domain name system management functions.
WWW Consortium:
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community that develops open standards to ensure the long-term growth of the Web.
Web Accessibility Initiative:
develops strategies, guidelines, resources to make the Web accessible to people with disabilities.
Domain Name System (DNS):
is a naming system for computers, services, or resources on the Internet. It associates domain names with a numerical IP address.
IPv6:
is a scheme to expand numerical IP addresses such that they are represented as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits.
HTTP:
HyperText Transfer Protocol is the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web, and defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and the actions servers and browsers should take in response to various commands.
ftp:
File Transfer Protocol is a network protocol used to transfer files from one host to another host over a TCP-based network.
TCP/IP:
Transmission Control Protocol and the Internet Protocol specify how data should be formatted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received on the Internet.
URL:
Uniform Resource Locator is a formatted text string used by Web browsers, email clients and other software to identify a network resource on the Internet.
