OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to….

  1. learn how to incorporate art with computers.
  2. Develop a cell painting similar to the ones made by Disney.
  3. Create a realistic/abstract background for their cell.

CONTENTS:

1.Students will become familiar with a computer program called Art Dabbler.

Students will be required to test all the tools given in the program using a

worksheet that has step by step instructions for the program.

2. Students will be required to create a realistic background and an abstract

background in the computer art program.

3. In class students will work in-groups researching the Internet on cell

paintings. This search will allow students to see how cell painting look when

completed.

MATERIALS:

ART TECHNOLOGY

Paint, Brushes, Cells, Newspapers 8 computers, PowerPoint, Digital Camera,

Books, Completed Example, Scissors Computer Lab time, Art Dabbler,

Written Instructions, 9X12 paper Internet access, Color Printer,

Exercise work sheet.

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching/writing about art. The artwork should be based around the theme of the unit. This exercise should be entered in to the students personal sketchbook.

 

 

 

  1. Demonstration (7min.)
  1. The teacher should give a brief demonstration of the activity for the day, as well as what is to be accomplished for the remanding time in the classroom. Written instructions and completed example should be posted for students to easily accomplish the required tasks.
  1. Activities (30min.)
  1. Students will be in the computer lab for four days. During that time students will complete a work sheet to introduce them to the software program Art Dabbler. Students will then be required to complete two backgrounds a realistic and an abstract. Students will chose the one that will enhance their cell painted character. The background will be printed in color.
  2. Back in the art room students will paint their characters they chose using warm colors first and cool colors last.
  3. Students will then mount their cell painting onto the computer background using a hot glue gun. A matte will be cut out of 9X12 construction paper to mount onto both pieces of artwork.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. Participation in a group critique of students cell- paintings referring to the Elements/Principles of art.
  2. Completion of rubric for art project.
  3. Written critical/analysis of students own artwork.

EXTENTIONS:

  1. Digital photograph taken of artwork to incorporate into the students personal art portfolio created in PowerPoint.
  2. Trip to the Disney Institute, Florida to see an actual cell painting artists in action, as well as complete their own Disney cell painting.
