OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to….

  1. Construct a grid within the Art and Math curriculums.
  2. Apply the grid to an art project allowing the students to magnify a small picture.
  3. View other cartoon enlargements on the teachers home page.
  4. Apply appropriate markering technique.

CONTENT:

  1. Students will create a sample grid using 12X16 paper and using a ruler to draw straight lines on the folds.
  2. Students will apply what they learned from the sample grid to the final grid on 18X24 paper.
  3. During the duration of the projects students will be responsible to respond to questions posed to them relating to the Elements/Principles of art and their cartoon enlargement.
  4. Correct markering technique will be applied to the cartoon enlargement project. Students will be responsible for completing a markering test.

MATERIALS:

ART Technology

12X16 paper, 18X24 paper, Pencils 8 Computers, PowerPoint, Disks,

Markers, Rulers, Comic Strips Digital Camera

Completed Example, Books,

Written Instructions, Visuals

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching/writing about art. The artwork should be based around the theme of the unit/lesson.

 

 

 

  1. Demonstration (7min.)
  1. Teacher should give a brief demonstration of the activity for the day, as well as what is to be accomplished for the remanding time in the classroom. Written instructions should be posted for students to easily accomplish the tasks.
  1. Activities (30min.)
  1. Develop a grid using 12X16 paper. Students should fold horizontally three times then vertically three times creating 16 squares. Students should then practice drawing straight lines along the folds using a ruler.
  2. Upon completion of the sample grid students should move to the 18X24 grid for the final project. Applying the same steps used in the sample.
  3. Students will then begin searching for a cartoon block. The cartoon must have two characters, and bubble blurbs. The bubble blurb writing must be able to stand-alone. Students can have the option of changing what the writing says. Cartoon should be trimmed to the black line, and folded in grid form.
  4. Students will then begin drawing the cartoon block they selected enlarging it onto 18X24 grid.
  5. Students will complete a marker test before markering their project. Markering should be done in warm colors first then cool colors. Black marker will be used last for outlining cartoon block.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. Completion of rubric on the finished art project.
  2. Written critical/analysis of students own work.

EXTENSIONS:

  1. Digital photograph taken to incorporate into students personal art portfolio

created in PowerPoint.

2. Group students together to complete a whole comic strip.
