OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to….

  1. Complete a poster that has their own drawing to go along with an important message for the community.
  2. Become more aware of themselves, with the message to take care of yourself and people important to you, Working along with the health teacher will provide students with information for a healthy way of life.
  3. Discuss artists who worked in only portraying messages to an audience.

CONTENT:

  1. Students can use books, magazines to practice people running and walking.
  2. Accessing the Internet on a famous poster artist TeLoucleTrec.

  3. Students ability to the follow the guidelines of the poster contest will determine if their poster actually is eligible.
  4. Students will develop four thumb nail sketches, and select the one to use. Students should include the Elements/Principles of Art.
  5. Upon selection students will then begin redrawing their picture on 16X18 poster board. Students will work in the art medium markers to complete the project.

MATERIALS:

ART TECHNOLOGY

Poster board, Markers, Pencils, 8 Computers, Internet access,

Rulers, Compasses, Newsprint paper, PowerPoint Software,

Magazines, Books, Completed Example Digital Camera, Disks

Posters of prior Winners, Written Instructions

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching/writing about art. The artwork should be based around the theme of the unit.
  1. Demonstration (7min.)
  1. The teacher should give a brief demonstration of the activity for the day, as well as what is to be accomplished for the remanding time in the classroom. The written instructions should be posted for students to easily see the tasks needed to be accomplished.
  1. Activities (30min.)
  1. Students will browse through books and magazines to accumulate ideas for their poster.
  2. Next they will develop four thumbnail sketches pertaining to the requirements of the contest as well as incorporating their own visual message.
  3. Selecting one thumbnail, and redrawing it onto 16X18 white poster board. Students should be able to explain which Elements/Principles are represented in the poster,
  4. Begin using the correct markering technique to complete the poster. Black marker will be used last for outlining.
  5. Complete poster by filling out the entry form for the contest and taping to the back of the poster.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. Students participation in a group discussion of the posters, and discuss the drawings and if they relate to the message for the community.
  2. Written critical/analysis of students own artwork.
  3. Completion of rubric on the finished product.

EXTENSIONS:

  1. Digital photograph taken of artwork to incorporate into students personal art portfolio created in PowerPoint.
  2. Class participation in the Ruthie Dino-Marshall Walk/Run.
