OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to….

  1. Incorporate Georgia Okeefes art style into their own flower abstraction.
  2. Sketch their own flowers from several different angles.
  3. Learn about Okeefes life through a Power Point presentation given by the art teacher.
  4. Describe the parts of the plant, from the assistance of the Science curriculum.

CONTENT:

  1. Teacher will give a PowerPoint presentation representing Georgia Okeefes life and art. Including several completed compositions of flower abstractions.
  2. Students will refer to the Elements of Art/Principles of Design from the teachers Web Page to conduct a group discussion on Georgia Okeefes art, while viewing various web sites about her.
  3. Students will sketch a silk flower from four different angles using newsprint paper and a pencil.
  4. Selecting one sketch students will enlarge drawing and begin adding color to their flower enlargement using cray-pas.

MATERIALS:

ART TECHNOLOGY

Newsprint paper, pencils, 18X24 paper TV/VCR Monitor, PowerPoint Presentation,

Cray-pas (set of 12), Silk Flowers, Microsoft PowerPoint software,

Newspapers, Completed Example Digital Camera, CIA CD-ROM,

Written Instructions,Books, Smocks 8 Computers, Internet Access

 

 

 

 

 

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching or writing about art. The artwork should be based around the theme of the unit/lesson.
  1. Demonstration (7min.)
  1. Teacher will provide a power point presentation on the famed women artist Georgia Okeefe. Presentation will include facts about Okeefes life, and various pictures of her art. Teacher will lead students in a group discussion analyzing her work with the help of the Elements and Principles of art.
  2. Art/Science teachers should work together to provide students with the information needed to assist them in the learning of the parts of a plant.
  1. Activities (30min.)
  1. Through the PowerPoint presentation students should have an understanding of Okeefes artistic influence. As well as incorporating Elements/Principles of art and help from a diagram of a plant. Students should be well motivated to begin drawing four thumb nail sketches including different angles on newsprint paper using a pencil.
  2. Students will then select one sketch and redraw it on 18X24 enlarging and cropping the flower.
  3. Once the students have completed redrawing their picture they can begin working in the art medium cray-pas using bright, bold colors. The black cray-pa will be used for outlining the flower if the student wants to.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. Group critique of students flower compositions.
  2. Completion of rubric on the finished project.
  3. Written critical/analysis of students own artwork.

EXTENTIONS:

  1. Digital photograph taken of artwork to incorporate into students art portfolio created in PowerPoint.
  2. Access Chicago Institute of art software to view other artists that use nature as their inspiration.
