OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to….

  1. Cooperatively tour the Vincent VanGogh CD-ROM
  2. Recreate the "Starry Night" in computer software.
  3. Apply critical/analysis to VanGoghs art using the vocabulary from the Elements of Art/Principles of Design.

CONTENT:

  1. Students knowledge will be enhanced when they tour the multimedia CD-ROM of VanGoghs life and art.
  2. Group discussions will take place during the viewing of the CD-ROM incorporating the Elements of Art/Principles of Design.
  3. Students will access the Internet through the teachers web page for web sites pertaining to VanGoghs art.
  4. Using the software Art Dabbler students will reproduce their own version of the "Starry Night"

MATERIALS:

Technology

8 computers, Internet access, 25 computers, Art Dabbler Software/VanGogh Software

Computer Lab Time, Power Point Software, Digital Camera, Books, Completed Example, Written Instructions.

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching/writing about art. The artwork should be based around the theme of the unit/lesson.
  1. Demonstration: (7min.)
  1. Teacher should give a brief demonstration of the activity for the day, as well as what is to be accomplished for the remanding time in the classroom. Written instructions should be posted for students to easily accomplish the tasks required.

 

  1. Activities (30min.)
  1. Using 8 computers students will be put in groups of three/four to work on the Internet search of VanGoghs art.
  2. Using the computer lab available in the school, students will access the multimedia CD-ROM on Vincent VanGogh. Students will tour through the CD-ROM viewing
  3. artwork, and listening to blurbs about his life.

  4. Working in the program Art Dabbler students will recreate VanGoghs "Starry Night". A visual of the "Starry Night" will already be scanned into all of the computers in Art Dabbler. Students will trace over the visual of the "Starry Night" and apply the tools they wish to complete their own recreation of the famous piece of artwork.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. Students participation in group discussion on VanGoghs art working incorporating the Elements of Art/Principle of Design.
  2. Written critical/analysis of students own artwork.
  3. Completion of rubric on the finished product,

EXTENSIONS:

  1. Digital photograph taken of artwork to incorporate into students personal art portfolio created in power point.
  2. Field trip to the MET. To view live work of Vincent VanGogh.
