OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to….

  1. Describe the historical aspects of cubism and the art Pablo Picasso created during that time accessing the Picasso CD-ROM.
  2. Incorporate the cubinistic style, and Elements of Art/Principles of Design into a self- portrait.
  3. Cooperatively research on the Internet with the web sites provided on the cubinisim time period.

CONTENT:

  1. Students will cooperatively access teachers web page for site on the cubinistic time period for understanding of the historical aspect in art. As well as viewing the CD-ROM.
  2. Students study of self-portraiture will be enhanced through example provided on the teachers web page.
  3. Upon completion of a self-portrait in pencil students will divide their picture using a marker and various types of lines.
  4. The use of paint will be the last aspect of the project were students can add various colors to fill in the shapes they made with the lines.

MATERIALS:

ART TECHNOLOGY

12X16 White Paper, Paint, Brushes, Smocks 8 Computers, Internet Access,

Newsprint paper, Pencils, Black Marker Power Point, Digital Camera, Disks,

Completed Example, Books, Picasso CD-ROM

Written Instructions

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching or writing about art. The artwork should be based on the theme of the unit/lesson.

 

 

 

  1. Demonstration (7min.)
  1. Teacher should give a brief demonstration of the activity for the day, as well as what is to be accomplished for the remanding time in the classroom. Written instructions should be posted for students to easily accomplish the tasks.
  1. Activities (30min.)
  1. Students will begin with researching Cubinisim, and the art of Pablo Picasso during that time period in art.
  2. Students will then practicing realistic self-portraits using a pencil and newsprint paper. (Students should bring a photo in of themselves)
  3. Once the sketch is completed students should use a black marker and begin dividing up their portraits with various types of lines transforming their picture into a cubinistic style painting.
  4. Students will redraw their self-portrait transformed on 12X16 paper. Once

completed, students will then begin painting in the shapes they created.

After all shapes are painted, students will out line the shapes using a black

marker.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. Students should be able to explain how they applied the knowledge learned from the Internet, as well as how it assisted them in the creation of a cubinistic style self-portrait.
  2. Written critical/analysis of students own artwork incorporating the vocabulary from the Elements of Art/Principles of Design.
  3. Completion of rubric on the finished project.

EXTENTIONS:

  1. Digital photograph taken of artwork to incorporate into students art portfolio created in power point.
  2. Introduce tessellations as the next project incorporating with the math teacher, and the Elements of Art.
