OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to….

  1. Access the Internet to gain knowledge about the medium they are about to work in.
  2. Sketch four thumbnail drawings to chose from for the final project.
  3. Follow visual directions posted for the 12 printing techniques the teacher has designed. (How the prints will be placed onto paper)
  4. Explore the various techniques used in printmaking.
  5. Use the PowerPoint Software to complete a final art show presentation of all of the prints made.

CONTENT:

  1. Accessing the web sites provided will further students understanding of the medium, as well as provide them with the opportunity to use some of the techniques that they have seen on the Internet.
  2. Four thumbnail sketches of the following animal, cartoon, plant, landscape.
  3. Drawings must be simplified line drawings taking up most of the Linoleum Square.
  4. Directions will be posted for printing techniques, as well as paint and paper usage.
  5. Students upon completion will take a digital picture of each print and create an art show presentation on their prints, utilizing all the tools in the software.

MATERIALS:

ART Technology

Printing Paint, Printmaking tools 8 computers, Internet Access,

Colored paper, Written Instructions Digital Camera, Disks, PowerPoint software,

Completed Example, Books, Newspapers,

Newsprint paper, Calendar visuals, Smocks

3"X3"Linoleum squares, Linoleum cutting tools, Brushes

PROCEDURES:

  1. Do Now (5min.)
  1. Begin each class with sketching/writing about art. The artwork should be based around the theme of the unit/lesson.
  1. Demonstration (7min.)
  1. Teacher should give a brief demonstration of the activity for the day, as well as what is to be accomplished for the remanding time in the classroom. Written instructions should be posted for students to easily accomplish the tasks.

C. Activities (30min.)

  1. Students will first research on the Internet various printmaking styles.
  2. Students will then begin sketching four thumbnail drawings using newsprint paper and a pencil. Students should be sketching one each of the following: animal,cartoon,plant, and landscape. Students will be able to look through visuals provided by the teacher.
  3. Students then will select one thumbnail to be used as their final printing picture. Students will redraw their picture onto the 3"X3" linoleum square and begin carving out their pencil lines only.
  4. Students will begin printing with warm colored paint onto cool colored 9X12 construction paper. Then printing with cool colored paint on warm colored 9X12 construction paper. There will be a total of 12 printing techniques. Students will be required to have one of each technique. Students will be required to do a tonal print with the color of their choice and adding white to one side. A multi-colored print will be last and paintbrushes will be needed to apply the 3-4 different colors of paint.
  5. Upon completion of prints students will mount them onto 12X16 colored paper, and begin taking digital photos to insert into their printmaking art show presentation.

ASSESSMENT:

  1. 6 warm colored prints, 6 cool colored prints, 2 tonal prints, and 2 multicolored prints. Will be required in the PowerPoint presentation. Each print must have a different printing technique. The samples will be posted by the teacher.
  2. Students were able to follow the directions posted by the teacher. Teacher circulation will determine this.
  3. Written critical/analysis of the students own artwork.
  4. Completion of rubric on the finished project.

EXTENTIONS:

  1. Test other ways of printing. (finger prints, hand/foot prints, styrofoam
  2. prints, sponge prints, string prints)

  3. Digital photograph taken of artwork for on going portfolio assessment.
