SuperSCSI FAQ

Q. What is SuperSCSI?

A. SuperSCSI is a software package that contains drivers, descriptors and support programs for using SCSI drives under OS-9 for the Color Computer. It is the most complete SCSI package for the Color Computer ever to exist, supporting all versions of CoCo OS-9 and working with a variety of controllers and drives.

Q. Which hard disk controllers does SuperSCSI support?

A. The following SCSI controllers are supported: TC^3 from Cloud-9 (in production), Ken-Ton, Disto 4-N-1 and Disto HD-II (all no longer produced).

Q. Does SuperSCSI really support CD-ROM drives?

A. Yes, SuperSCSI adapts to CD-ROM drives, which use 2,048 byte sectors. Please note that the ISO 9660 format that is common among CD-ROMs is NOT supported under OS-9 at the moment. What IS supported is an RBF disk image burned onto a CD-ROM. Supporting ISO 9660 CD-ROMs has nothing to do with SuperSCSI; it would be necessary to write a file manager.

Q. How well does SuperSCSI integrate with HDB-DOS?

A. Very well! Using an OS-9 device descriptor, you can access any of HDB-DOS' 256 virtual drives right from OS-9, with any of the standard OS-9 tools and disk utilities. No additional software is needed.
