Tom Bowers

Tom Bowers grew up in Liberia, in the West African jungle, as the son of pioneer missionaries engaged in planting churches in remote villages. He attended Michigan State University and Wheaton College Graduate School.

Tom and his wife Cathie have been married 34 years. They live in Charlotte, NC and attend Charlotte First Baptist Church where they have been active leaders in adult teaching ministry for more than two decades.

His career has included:

• Governor’s Office of Michigan as a public information officer
• Director of Community Relations for Columbia International University
• Assistant Dean of Students at Wheaton College
• Sales Manager for specialty Sunday School curriculum at David. C. Cook Publishing Co (now Cook Communications)
• Regional Manager for EBSCO Industries (targeted marketing & public relations services)
• Director of Marketing for a division of Walk Thru the Bible Ministries (discipleship training and evangelism/outreach for churches)
• Currently a senior writer at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (specializing in Church Ministries)

Tom serves on the board of two Charlotte-based non-profits, Global Vision Resources Foundation and Operation Daily Light, and has been a senior marketing consultant for Breakthrough Media of Charles City, Virginia, a church growth research and support agency.

Tom was strategist/writer/developer for Neighborhood Connections, a church-based neighborhood outreach strategy that has been implemented in communities across the country. He has published in Guideposts, Decision, Lutheran Standard, Campus Life, and Christianity Today and is co-author of an extensive web-based series on church outreach. He also is the author/editor of Mourning & Mending, a resource kit for ministering to people who have experienced sudden or traumatic loss.
