Ruff the Wirehair

As it's name suggests, the German wirehaired pointer was originally bred in Germany in the latter part of the 19th century as a hunting dog. This is a versatile hunting dog that can retrieve waterfowl and flush and retrieve upland birds equally well. It is a medium sized dog that stands about 24 - 26 inches tall and weighs about 60 - 70 pounds. The most distinguishing feature of the dog is it's coat. The coat is double layered with a soft undercoat that keeps the dog warm in winter and cool in summer and a longer, rough, and wiry outercoat that is up to 2 inches long. Another distinctive feature are the eyebrows which stand almost straight up and the beard around the mouth area.

Wirehairs are even tempered dogs that are good with children. They are devoted to their families and can be very protective of children. These dogs are very intelligent and take well to training. One should keep in mind that these dogs are bred as sporting dogs and as such need a lot of exercise but will take well to smaller yards and long walks.

Karson's Standards

Karson likes to breed a wirehair that is a good companion. The dog should be good with children, well-behaved, and still perform in the field. His ideal wirehair will love to hunt and still want to be with you when you're not in the field. So, as a result, he doesn't always breed for looks with his dogs, preferring to concentrate on hunting skill. Karson's dog lines go back 30 years.
