We prefer to see clients for quilting consultations only by appointment on Fridays. If Friday is not convenient for you, other arrangements will be made. Call or e-mail for an appointment.
Before you arrive:
- Visit Preparing Your Quilt so you aren't met with any surprises during our consultation. It will also help you to know how you need to prepare your quilt top for a longarm machine.
- You can create a close estimate for what you'll be charged by visiting Services & Pricing. Choose the quilting service you desire. Then accurately measure your quilt, in inches. Multiply the width, times the length, times the price listed for the service you have chosen. Add on any charges for thread, batting, preparing the backing and binding. (For example, edge-to-edge quilting using a dense pantograph pattern on a quilt 80-inches by 90-inches with a non-specialty thread and no color changes would be figured as: 80 x 90 x .019 + $5 = $134.60 plus tax.) A $25 deposit will be required when you drop off your top for quilting.
During the consultation:
We will discuss how your quilt should be quilted. We prefer collaborative decisions. It's your quilt, so we want your input, your preferences. There may be times we will do our best work when allowed some design control.
- We will show you patterns and samples of our work and we'll discuss our style of quilting.
- We will ask you what styles of quilting you prefer - heavy, light, traditional, contemporary, juvenile or elegant.
- We will want to know how you plan to use the quilt. Is it a gift? Will it hang on the wall? Do you plan to put it in a show? Will it become a family heirloom? Will it be dragged around and loved by some child?
- What is your budget?
- We will give you a finished-by date. We will not accept quilts that we cannot complete within a month.
The balance will be due in full by cash or check when you pick up your quilt.
If you loan your quilt for public display or enter it in a show, please give us credit as the machine quilter. Thank you.
