Research shows A Jacob Allen Shiver born in 1787 in Rowan County, North Carolina. His wife named Sarah, born in Camden, Kershew County, South Carolina. They had seven children named Mary A. Shiver, Abraham Shiver, Gilly Shiver, Jacob Shiver, Nicholas Shiver, Samuel Agustus Shiver and Elizabeth Shiver.
J. W. (Buford) Shiver who lives at Spanish Fort Alabama said his father was Francis Marion Shiver, his grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Shiver, and his great grandfather was Jacob Shiver. Buford was born 1 July 1917 in Boonville Alabama (Escambia County).
Preston Henderson who lives in Columbus Georgia (his mother was Vera Shiver) said one of his descendants was named Abraham Shiver.
Preston Henderson also said he believes his lines of Shiver's are the ones buried at the McCullough Alabama Cemetery. All these names showing up in the same family group makes it possible that Miles K. Shiver may have had a brother named Jacob Shiver and their father was named Jacob Shiver also. Samual Shiver could be the link to the Spanish Fort Shiver's. The following is some information from Linda Shiver Thomas (great, great, gran daughter of Miles K. Shiver--brother to Samual):

As far as the Spanish Fort Shiver 's , i have'nt proved it yet but have been working on that line , trying to see if they are our kin too. It sure feels like they are , but i don't know for certain yet. I will try to identify those you seen in the McCullough Cemetery. The childs grave , William H. Shiver, is William Howell Shiver , born June 16, 1945 in McCullough , Alabama. He died October 10, 1945. He was the infant of J.W. and Madge Shepherd Shiver. J.W. Shiver lived at Route 3 , Atmore , Alabama. J.W. Shiver was born in McCullough , Alabama his wife was born in Enterprise , Alabama. Thomas J. Shiver was the son of Jake Shiver & Catherine Cooper Shiver. Thomas Jefferson Shiver was born in Coffee County, Alabama February 17, 1862. His wife was Mary P. Shiver. Thomas J. Shiver had a brother named Samuel T. Shiver , who is buried at Jack Springs Cemetery, his wife was Annie Shiver. Samuel T. Shiver died April 3, 1924. I'm thinking right now that the picture you sent me of Sam Shiver 's grave could be Miles K. Shiver's brother Samuel A. Shiver, its a mighty old grave. Its a shame it did'nt have any dates on it . I will have to ask Buford or his brother henry about that grave. Maybe someone knows . This is very interesting, and what you done may have shedded alot of light on the subject and opened up locked doors. I am going to share a letter with you that Bufords mother wrote to someone else who was researching the Shiver name.
"I am Francis Marion Shiver's wife, and there was a Jimmy Shiver that visited us in Texas in 1910 . And on his way back to Coffee County , visited his aunt Katherine Cooper Shiver. She married Jacob Shiver before the Civil War and they raised four girls. Millie Shiver married B. Norton . Duck married Barry Arnette, Kate married Samuel Strickland, Elizabeth married John Hall. Samuel Shiver married Anna John. Oldest son went West to Texas with grandfather Jacob Shiver in 1860,? after the civil war. Thomas Jefferson Shiver born after grandparent , Uncle John went to Texas. Thomas Jefferson Shiver and Molly Malloy raised three sons, Walter Ivan Shiver born May 28, 1887, Francis Marion Shiver born May 22, 1890 & John Thomas Shiver born January 16, 1888. Francis Marion Shiver married Clara McKinley August 25, 1909. If i am headed right , your grandfather was Samuel Shiver and your father was Gus Shiver and you had a brother , Johnny Shiver. They spent the night with Marion and me late in 1910. I am the oldest one of the family and living in a nursing home."
