For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement (Romans 5:1011). And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God (1 Corinthians 6:11). Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost (Titus 3:5). Christians toss around twenty dollar words ever so glibly, often hardly knowing what they mean. By Gods grace, however, we are not saved through our knowledge. We are saved based on the repentant state of our heart, through the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvarys cross. Much of what we learn about our salvation actually comes after we are saved. It is important to understand the process, however, in order to maintain strictly doctrinal stands in an age of growing apostasy. Some churches have been so lax in this area through the years, that they have ceased to be true Christians and are incapable of leading others to salvation. Note: The material presented in this lesson draws heavily from Ungers Bible Dictionary, produced by Merrill F. Unger and published by Moody Press. This is an excellent source of information on a wide variety of subjects. We heartily recommend it.
