E. Through loving God Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets (Matthew 22:3740). 1. A few reasons for loving God a. Because He first loved us: 1 John 1:19 b. Because He died in our stead: Romans 5:8 c. He ever lives to make intercession for us: Hebrews 7:25; 1 John 2:12 d. He watches over and cares for us: 1 Peter 5:7; Matthew 10:2931 F. Through fearing God. God is love, but God is also just. Disobedience cannot go unpunished. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear (1 Peter 1:17). O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (Deuteronomy 5:29). 1. Because God has all power Matthew 10:28; Proverbs 1:7 2. Because He is just and He will judge all men according to their works Hebrews 9:27; 1 Timothy 5:24 a. The saved at the judgment seat of Christ: Romans 14:10; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Peter 4:17; 1 John 4:1718 b. The lost at the Great White Throne judgment: Revelation 20:11 15; 2 Peter 2:9; 2 Peter 3:7
