"Bridging the world to God through the gospel of Jesus Christ"

Premillennialism and the Second Coming of Christ • 9

Other changes which may occur involve massive evaporation of surface water when the sun becomes seven times hotter (Isaiah 30:26; Revelation 16:8–9). This will create a huge shroud of water vapor around the Earth, causing a greenhouse effect. Also the Earth will be moved somewhat in its orbit (Isaiah 13:13; Haggai 2:6–7; Joel 3:16).

The net result of all these changes should be a round Earth containing only small, shallow lakes and seas. The temperature should be a constant 70 or so all over the surface. It would have a tremendous percentage of flat, inhabitable land, suitable for containing a population growth with little or no death for 1000 years. It should be noted that, due to the trumpet and vial judgments and other events such as the battles of Gog/Magog and Armageddon, the millennium will start with a very tiny population. A year will probably be exactly 360 days. In other words, the Earth will be restored to its preflood condition. See also Daniel 9:27; Ezekiel 39:9.

1. First half of the tribulation
a. Rise of “the beast” This is a character who will be accepted as a worldwide dictator during the tribulation. He will seem to be the best hope for the Earth’s survival and will be loved and revered at first, but will kill millions of people who oppose him. He will appear to be unopposable, but will never quite lock up his position.

Revelation 13; Daniel 7:7–11, 19–26.

He will attempt to set up:
i) A one world government: Revelation 13:7
ii) A one world monetary system: Revelation 13:17
iii) A one world religion: Revelation 13:3–4, 11–12

b. Trumpet judgments In Revelation 5:1, we read of an event in heaven dealing with a book sealed with seven seals. The rest of the chapter is devoted to showing that the Lamb, Jesus Christ, is the only One who has earned the right to open the seals (Revelation 5:9) and read the contents.

It is logical to presume, from surrounding events as well as other scriptures, that this book contains the title deed to the created universe. As previously mentioned, until Christ’s coronation, Satan is the god of this world. However, our Lord has fulfilled all the required conditions to give Him legal title to the universe in the eyes of God.
