"Bridging the world to God through the gospel of Jesus Christ"

4 • Lesson Twelve

C. To establish Israel as the premiere nation on Earth

Over the years, national Israel has suffered greatly as the ‘chosen people’. Satan has had a particular vendetta against this nation because of her special position in relation to Jehovah. The Just One will make it all worth while when He, Israel’s Messiah, returns by promoting Israel to a position of international dominance.

Psalms 47:1–4; Isaiah 49:22–23; 54:3; 60:1–61:7

D. To put the original program back on track after Adam’s failure
God did not create man to fall. He created man with a plan that was interrupted when Adam exercised his God-given free will. Unless that original plan is carried out, Satan did, in effect get a victory over God.

1 Corinthians 15:45; Revelation 21:1, 4–6; 22:3

E. To usher in the “day of the Lord”
“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 3:8).

(See also Psalms 90:4.) The day of the Lord is a phrase referring to the final millennium of history for this present Earth. According to 2 Peter 3:10, it begins with the pre-wrath rapture (more on this later) of the faithful saints when Christ comes as a “thief in the night” (Revelation 3:3; 1 Thessalonians 5:2). The day of the Lord ends with the destruction of the universe by fire (2 Peter 3:10–12; Revelation 21:1).

Immediately after the prewrath rapture a seven year period of judgments from Almighty God known as the tribulation will be used to purge unrepentant sinners out of the Earth. This will be followed by the Sabbath of rest for the people of God ( Hebrews 4:4–9; Zechariah 14), known as the millennium, in which Christ Jesus will reign in His physical body on a literal, physical throne for 1000 years.

Finally, this era will end with the Great White Throne judgment of all men who have not previously appeared at the judgment seat of Christ, followed by the total annihilation of this sin stained universe.

This time is also referred to as “the coming of the day of God” 2 Peter 3:12

F. To destroy death
1 Corinthians 15:25–26; 2 Timothy 1:10; Revelation 1:18; 21:4
