II. The Purposes The Second Advent of Jesus Christ is almost assuredly the biggest event on Gods calendar with regard to the history of His creation. It is the climax of the great saga of the creation, fall, redemption, and restoration of mankind. A. To glorify the Word of God The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will fulfill a number of Gods temporal and eternal purposes. The primary purpose, however is to glorify the Word of God. 1. The Word: Jesus Christ When Jesus came the first time, Almighty God humbled Himself and became the Sacrificial Lamb to take away the sins of the world. John 1:1, 14, 29; Acts 8:32; Philippians 2:8; Revelation 5:12 As He humbled Himself the first time, so will He glorify Himself the second time. Isaiah 40:35; Matthew 24:30; 2 Thessalonians 1:10; Revelation 5:1114; 15:4 2. The Word: the scriptures fulfilled The fulfillment of prophetic scriptures is the one thing that sets Christianity and Judaism apart from all other religions from a purely analytical or objective point of view. This is the ultimate proof that the Bible is the word of God. Psalms 89:34; Isaiah 7:14; 11:1012; Jeremiah 31:78; Micah 5:2; Matthew 24:58; Luke 24:44; Acts 1:16; Revelation 17:17 B. To wrest this world away from Satan and establish the Righteous King on an eternal throne Until Jesus establishes His kingdom, Satan is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 6:2). The battle of Armageddon before the millennium of Revelation 20, and the battle of Gog and Magog (Revelation 20:89) after it represent Satans last desperate attempts to illegally hold on to the physical Kingdom of Heaven (the created universe). Psalms 2:612; Isaiah 9:7; Jeremiah 23:56; Daniel 7:14; 1 Corinthians 15:15, 2425, 28; Revelation 11:15; 20:23, 6, 10; 21:3
