Premillennialism
and the Second Coming of Christ
And when he had spoken these things, while
they beheld,
he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven (Acts 1:911). This approach leads to the position known as premillennialism. Premillennialism is the belief that Christ will indeed return to Earth and reign as King of kings for 1000 years just like He said He would. There are many prophesied events that occur just prior to His return. We will examine a number of them in this lesson. The study of the events related to Christs return is called Eschatology. The implication is that all others have had their day and been essentially settled so that only eschatology remains. This is the age in which eschatology should become a settled doctrine, but not enough serious work by serious, saved scholars is being done in this area. The Church, after brief flurries of interest over the last 100 years has become apathetic. Modern theologians just dont seem to be up to the task. Amazingly, this apathy itself was prophesied by the Apostle Peter in 2 Peter 3:17. He says in verse 5 For this they are willingly ignorant of . . .
