November 2009 Meeting
We plan to meet on November 10th (second Tuesday of the month) in the Gander Mountain store at 6:30 pm until 9 pm. We need to vacate the store by 9 pm, as that is when they close up shop. Hope you have the evening free. Also, feel free to bring and share munchy foods and or soft drinks. Note that the store has a policy disallowing alcoholic beverages.
Carroll Wilcox will present visuals of his successful climbs of Mt.
Shuksan & Mt. Adams in the North Cascades of Washington. Of
course, Shuksan is a very picturesque and classic climb. Here is
a description of their climbs in Carroll's own words:
"Our Washington trip was from Jul 8th-19th, 2009. Members included Rick French (trip leader), Chris McManus, Chris Stager, Paul Neumann and Carroll Wilcox. After a day in Seattle and traveling to the North Cascades, we started on Mt. Shuksan (9,131') with a 7
hour hike in followed by a day of training, then our summit day/hike out climbing via the Sulphide Glacier (a 17-hr day). We had an
extraordinary weather window of blue skies for the entire 3 days. For most of the members of our group, it was the 2nd or 3rd
attempt at climbing Shuksan so we were thrilled at having finally succeeded. After a couple days of relaxing during which we did some
simple spelunking in the Ape Cave on the south side of Mt. St. Helens, we headed to Mt Adams (12, 281') in the South Cascades. We
hiked in from the Yakama Indian Reservation to our base camp and climbed Mt. Adams via the Mazama Glacier the next day in equally
good weather and hiked out the same day. We ended with a trip to Mt. Hood for skiing, snowboarding and hiking."
