Crescent Trail closed to Mountain Bikes!

Horizon Hill and Indian Hill, former Mountain Bike areas on the Crescent Trail, on land owned by the Town of Perinton.
The Crescent Trail suddenly ended a multi-year experiment to allow mountain bikes on two small limited areas
of the Crescent Trail: Horizon Hill and Indian Hill.
This is unfortunate, since these were two nice areas, relatively close to Rochester.
Volunteer mountain bikers had helped maintain the trail.

Explanation from October '96 CTA Newsletter
These problems are not insurmountable, but require organization and planning.
Some recommendations:
- Mark the trails on which bikes are restricted more conspicuously
- Make the signs marking these trails more permanent (i.e. not plastic-wrapped cardboard)
- Make the entrances to these trails bike-unfriendly
- Solicit massive donations from bike shops--they'd be crazy not to want these trails open.
- Have a Biker level of membership, costing a little more than basic, with money earmarked for these trails.
- Advertise the need for volunteer work crews
