Tod KØTO provides more information... "Dick was critical to the trip because he had a trailer that we hauled with all of the equipment we brought up from the Twin Cities.

Dick Halverson, W0ZHN, supplied the crucial Boy Scout tent that could accommodate the entire group at one time. We heated the tent with a catalytic converter/heater that was lashed to the center tent pole about five feet above the ground. Everyone slept with their feet toward the center of the tent to keep their feet warm ( June on Isle Royale has nights that are close to freezing).

We had a crude version of the "octopus" we used to allow two HF transceivers to be used. We operated inside the cabin shown. It had no heat, no water and the floor was rotting away. In an enthusiastic effort to capture the octopus for his radio Dick Eue pushed his foot and foot switch through the floor."
