bullet  General Notes:

I am the eldest son born April 8th, 1915, to Axel and Alma Sjolin and have lived here all my life. We moved from the old homestead NW.22.46.21 2nd to SW3.47.21 2nd near Norden school which my three brothers Raymond, Gordon, and Alf attended. My brother, Harry, and I attended the Winnipeg School for the Deaf for eight years - then two years in Saskatoon We lost our hearing at an early age due to the Spanish 'flu epidemic. We nearly died but Mother fed us a mixture of raw egg and water. I started farming immediately after school with three teams of horses which I used for twelve years, then invested in a tractor. I then bought a 1928 motorcycle which I enjoyed for five years. After two accidents I invested in a Model A Ford which had a top speed of 35 m.p.h. One very moonlit night I was riding full speed when I realized a skunk with tail waving high was running ahead of me. I skidded and fell off to avoid getting sprayed. Alf and I also made a home-built snowmobile with a 9 h.p. engine. Top speed was 15 m.p.h. I used it in the winter to drive between farms. I sold the horses in 1947 and all the cattle in 1950 and just grain farmed. On June 23rd, 1953 1 married Lillian Rivard of South Makwa, Sask. We have two lovely daughters, Vivian born October 18th, 1955. She married Grant Wilton of Meskanaw in August 1976. They have one daughter, Lisa Marie, born July 1979. Alma was born December 16th, 1956. She married Terry Poncelet of Meskanaw in 1975. They also have one daughter, Carrie Lee, born August 1977. Both girls graduated from Kinistino High School. Both were very active in sports and both worked a number of years in the Bank of Nova Scotia here. I have been farming forty-six years and plan to retire soon. {Kinistino book, p. 424]
