bullet  General Notes:

OBITUARY: [Kinistino Paper, Dec. 15, 1959] John Sjolin Enjoyed an Active, Helpful Life

The Zion Lutheran Church was filled to capacity on Thurday afternoon as old friends gathered to pay final tribute to a well-known pioneer, John Sjolin, whose sudden death occured on Monday, December 7th. Pastor Paul Eriksson of Tisdale was in charge of the service assisted by Pastor R. Odelberg of Kinistino. Mrs. C. Mohr sang the lovely solo "Beyond the Sunset," while Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Nelsongave a beautiful rendition of "In the Land Where We'll Never Grow Old." Hymns sung were "Abide with Me" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Pallbearers were Ernest Holmquist, Louis Haugen, Hjalmer Holmgren, Edwin Heggstrom, Albert Kalberg and GustEliason. Interment was made in the Kinistino cemetery. The many memorial gifts and beautiful tributes including one from a nephew in Tennessee, were mute tokens of the esteem in which he was held.

Born in Hudikswall, Sweden in 1876, the lateJohn Sjolin came to Canada with his parents in 1901, and settled in the Kinistino district. He later took out a homestead in the Delisle district but continued to spend much of his time with his parents here. In 1910 he was united in marriage to Miss Brita Olson of Kinistino and the two resided at Delisle until 1927 when they moved back to this district, remaining here since.

A skilled carpenter and a great reader, Mr. Sjolin kept active at both until his last hours when he lay down for a nap and passed away in his sleep. He left many momentoes of his carpenter work in various items which he had made for friends, including the gavel which was presented to the Town of Kinistino on its golden celebration.

The deepest sympathy of the community goes out to Mrs. Sjolin at this time of her great loss. Bird's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

(A hand-writen note says "no children")
