Maddie's Playhouse!

In July 2009, my Dad & I started construction on a playhouse for Maddie. It sits up four feet high and is 8 feet by 8 feet. The interior will be 8 feet by 6 feet and there's a 2 foot porch on the front. There will be four 14" x 21" windows, two on the front and one on each side.

Here's the four posts and framework for the floor joists. The third picture was taken by Maddie while we all lifted it onto the posts :-)

After getting the first frame in place and doing some final leveling, we secured the four posts in concrete. Maddie helped add the water :-)

Next was to install the floor joists and deck boards on the top. Maddie approves.

Next, the walls went up. You can see what will soon be the interior portion of the playhouse and what will be the porch. Treated 4x4s make up the framework for the top of the porch to hold the rafters.

Next, the rafters went up.

Then the roof sheathing. These are rough cut 1x8's left over from the big garage project. The weather was absolutely NOT cooperating with us that day.

The weather was better the next day and we got the rest of the sheathing up and the black felt in place so that it can now shed water.

September 10, 2009

Finished up the shingles and started on the steps. The height to the porch is about 4 feet. So we built her steps in two stages, with a landing so she wouldn't fall the entire 4 feet at once. We cemented the four 4x4s in the ground and Maddie put her hand print in one of them.
