March
2025: I completed a major update to the Nevada Mineral Occurrence dataset,
including adding many new ore body shapes, more data to existing points, and a
few hundred new points. There are now 15,267 point occurrences, up from 14783
in the last (2019) update.
June
2024: This Spring's GIS data sale is over. Thanks to all who showed interest. I am continuing to refine and expand my
compilation work in the Yerington area, add more data to the Great Basin GIS
geochemistry database, and also work on other projects.
April
2024: Nearly all data is now 50% off. This includes all geologic maps and
mineral occurrence data. Geochemistry, geophysics, and base map data is not
included in the sale. The sale is scheduled to expire May 31, 2024.
March
2024: I finished updating my Yerington area geologic maps. I spent about a
month field checking questionable areas last year, and have now finished incorporating
all my field observations into the map set. The geologic map set now covers
thirteen 7.5 minute quadrangles and includes detailed alteration,
exploration-mining areas, and resource outlines where available.
February
2024: I finished a 2nd major update and expansion to the Great Basin GIS Nevada
geochemical database, which now contains over 158,000
analyses. There are ~48,000 lithium, 64,447 uranium
and ~96,000 gold analyses, including 66,132 with low detection limit. Most
analyses are multi-element.(<=50 ppb).
January
2024: In November, I gave a talk on exploration geophysics for geologists at
the Geological Society of Nevada Winnemucca chapter meeting. The abstract for
this talk is in the November GSN newsletter. I have now made a extended abstract, containing most
of my talking points and a few of the more informative slides from the talk.
You can access it HERE.
August
2023: I finished a major update and expansion to the Great Basin GIS Nevada
geochemical database, which now contains almost 129,000 analyses. There are
~36,000 lithium and ~86,000 gold analyses. The database contains ~80,000 rocks,
22,000 stream sediment, 17,000 soil, and 8500 drill sample analyses. There are
36800 records analyzed for lithium, of these, ~12,000 rock/drill sample records
have been recently added. Price per sample has dropped for the soil, streamsed, water and vegetation types of samples.
April
2023: I have found a trove of historical lithium analyses and am currently
working to get them into my Nevada geochemistry database, starting in the north
part of the state, and working south.
December
2022: The Yerington area geological map compilation is done This
was a large, messy project completely covering 13 7.5 minute quadrangles.
Nearly all the base map distortions and inaccuracies have been resolved. There
are at least 30 sources of maps in all. Unfortunately this means the license
fees are higher than usual, but I plan to offer a significant discount for
purchases committed to at the AEMA conference to partly offset this. I will
also have a poster I did for 2020 on Nevada-Utah Mineral Occurrences.
April
2022: I'm nearly finished working on the Yerington area, collecting and
integrating the various geologic and alteration maps of the area. So far I have
completed 11 7.5'quadrangles, and have two more that will be done soon. I will
have a poster at the GSN conference next month that will highlight this work.
This is a large, messy project and has taken a huge amount of time to get the
maps completely updated and integrated. There are at least 30 sources of maps
in all. Unfortunately this means the license fees are higher than usual, but I
plan to offer a significant discount for purchases committed to at the
conference to partly offset this. I will also have a poster I did for 2020 on
Nevada-Utah Mineral Occurrences.
February
2021: I'm currently working on the Yerington area, collecting and integrating
the various geologic and alteration maps of the area. This is a large, messy
project and will take at least several more months and will cover at least 6
7.5 minute quads.
July
2020: New GIS Geologic map compilation of the Oasis Valley area covering 9
quads north and east of Beatty. I made over 1500 edits to the original GIS
datasets to clean up, re-format and integrate them into one high quality
dataset.
May
2020: New GIS Geologic map of Bare Mountain area southeast of Beatty, generated
from the paper map. Some location inaccuracies in the paper map were resolved.
April
2020: New GIS Geologic map of Mt Hamilton-Treasure Hill area in eastern Nevada, generated from the paper-pdf
map.
November
2019: Nevada Mineral occurrences GIS updated by adding reference table and
footprint table, as well as ~920 new occurrences. Both the Nevada and Utah
datasets now have identically-formatted detailed point data, reference, and
footprint/pit shape tables.
