The first and most important thing to do is to get our reservations in at a motel or resort as soon as possible (ASAP!!!). For those of you who are just planning to come on the weekend I think the best thing to do is to make a reservation at my one of my first two motel / B & B recommendations. For those who might want to "vacation" for a longer period of time you might want to consider a Lakeside Resort. Please take some time and examine the information provided below. Also check out the web sites!!

MOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS:

From past correspondence I figure that most of you would like to stay in a nice motel. The nicest motels are in Chester. The first one listed below is my primary recommendation. These places are often booked "Full" long before summer begins. so I strongly recommend making reservations as soon as possible (ASAP!!!). For the more adventurous, those who might want to try a cabin or campsite at a resort or campground, see the section on Resorts and Camp Grounds. Also please consider our offer of hosting some of the older kids at our home in Westwood.

• The Chester Manor Motel:
  This is my first recommendation. Click on the name above to visit their web site. I checked out three separate rooms: all were very clean and attractive. Each had a microwave and small fridge. There is a nice grove of trees next to parking area, near their little Gym. They have a fair sized visitor parking lot. A coffee-shop style restaurant is right next door. Centrally located in town of Chester. Room Rates: $57.00 for a single-person queen; $69.00 two-person Queen; $94.00 for a two-person King with a small separate tV room with couch; $85.00 for a two-person two-bedroom suite, $10.00 for a third person. • The Bidwell House - a Bed & Breakfast Inn:
  If you can afford it this would be my second recommendation. Click on the name above to see their web site. This place is very charming with all the cozy perks of a nice B&B. I have been in their main Lobbies and dining room and found it quite charming. Additional rooms have recently been constructed off the back of the old mansion. Sits on a nicely wooded lot with a fair sized lawn and gazebo. Located on the uttermost east end of Chester near the pastures that lead out toward nearby Lake Almanor. Room rates $80 -$170 per night. 13 rooms and one Cottage that sleeps six. Summer week ends - 2 night minimum. See web site for more details and room photos.

RESORTS & CAMPGROUNDS:

There are several nice Resort-RV-Campground combination places along the shores of Lake Almanor. Some have a number of motel style "Cabins and Lodges", as well as Marinas with docks, and other features. Viewing the web sites will provide more details than I can provide here.

• North Shore Campground:
  
This place is a wooded RV park and campground right on the north shore of Lake Almanor. I mention this place first since it is only a mile or two east of chester, just off Hwy 36 (which is Main St. in Chester.) This place might be a good place to set up my two five-person canvas tents for the older kids; with the adults closeby in Chester. If you come with a RV or camper this place is also an option. They have a nice simple web site with additional info and features.

• Lake Almanor Resort and RV:
  
This place is also on the north shore of Lake Almanor; but about seven miles from Chester. This place does have about 14 nice cabins and lodges and probably could accommodate everyone. They even advertise for family reunions. Check out their web site an view the photos and rates for their cabins. If you are planning to stay longer than the weekend then this is my first "Resort" recommendation.

RESTAURANTS:

There are plenty of fine restaurants in the Chester, Lake Almanor, Westwood area; that hopefully will meet your culinary appetites. I will post some more info on specific restaurants at a later date. Remember, however, that on Friday and Saturday we will be planning special get-together meals and activities. Early bird arrivals, and late-leaving vacationers will of course be treated to some home style cooking at Jim & Em's home.

STORES:

There is a nice super-market in Chester for any shopping that you may want to do. The rooms at the Chester Manor Motel all have a small Fridge and a Microwave. I will post more info on stores, pharmacies, and other such places later.

CHURCH LOCATIONS AND SCHEDULES:

COMMUNITY PARKS:

Both Chester and Westwood, and Clear Creek have nice community parks. Soft ball fields, horse shoe pits, playground equipment, etc are available at these parks. I plan on having a BBQ or two at one or two of these parks. Also there is a couple of public beaches on the shores of Lake Almanor that might be an option for a picnic. More info to be posted later.
