BRIGHTNESS OF HIS GLORY

"God, who at various ways and in diverse manners spoke in times past unto the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He has appointed Heir of All Things, by whom also He made the ages. Who being the Brightness of His Glory, and the Exact Impression of His Substance, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, and sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on High; being made so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent Name than they." (Hebrews 1:1-4)

Brightness: from the Greek word Amen which means: a light flashing forth from light, shining forth, radiance, brightness. The only use of this word in the New Testament

Glory: from the Greek word doxa which means: a good opinion; thus: honor, renown; glory, an especially divine quality, the unspoken manifestation of God, His splendor and infinite, intrinsic worth. Usually translated Glory

Recomended reading prior to study: John 12:1-50,.

Christ Jesus is literally the Radiance and brightness of God's Glory; and not just a reflection of it. Consider these verses:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness did not comprehended it. ...And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us; and we beheld His Glory, the Glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of Grace and Truth." (John 1:1-5, 14)

"And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up onto a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His face did shine like the sun, and His clothes were white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with Him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if thou will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. But while he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear you Him." And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were very afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, except Jesus only." (Matthew 17:1-8)

"For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His Majesty. For He received from God the Father Honor and Glory, when there came such a voice to Him (Jesus) from the Excellent Glory (the Father), 'This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.' And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him on the holy mountain." (2 Peter 1:16-18)

It is God the Father, the Excellent Glory, who has given to His Beloved Son, Jesus, His Love, His Glory, His Honor, and His Majesty. Jesus is the Brightness of His Fathers Glory! He is the exact impression of His Fathers' Nature. If you want to see the Excellent Glory, the Father, look to Jesus!

Consider also these verses:

“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But if our Gospel is hidden, it is hidden to those who are lost; in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the Light of the Gospel of the Glory of Christ, who is the Image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the Light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:1-6)

If you want to see the Majestic Glory, the Father, look to Jesus! This is the will and the prayer of Jesus:

"Father, I will that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am; so that they may behold My Glory, which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world." (John 17:24)
