The BELOVED - BELOVED SON
"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear. He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire; whose fan is in His hand, and He will throughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. Then Jesus came from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized by him. But John forbad Him, saying, 'I have need to be baptized by You; and do You come to me?' And Jesus answering said unto him, 'Allow it to be so now; for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness.' Then he allowed Him. And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him. And lo a voice from heaven, saying, "This is "My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."" (Matthew 3:11-17 - John he Baptist speaking)
"And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and brought them up onto a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His face did shine like the sun, and His clothing were white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with Him. Then Peter spoke, and said unto Jesus, 'Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.' And while he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, 'This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear you Him.' And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were very afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, 'Arise, and do not be afraid.' And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, except Jesus only." (Matthew 17:1-5)
"For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His Majesty. For He received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the Excellent Glory, 'This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.' And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the Holy Mountain." (2 Peter 1:16-18)
Beloved : from the Greek word agapetos which means:loved, beloved, dearly loved; with two special applications: The Beloved, a title of the Messiah (the Christ) as beloved beyond all others by God the Father who sent Him; and of Christians, as beloved by God, and by Christ, and by one another.
Son : from the Greek word huios which means:a son (by birth or adoption), a male descendent, a male offspring, who shares the same nature and rights as his Father. The title 'Beloved' is a very, very special title of Jesus. It speaks of His very special Father-Son Relationship; a relationship that has existed eternally, even before the creation of the world! Jesus is the Father's Only Begotten Bloved Son.
Jesus is the Beloved of the Father because Jesus laid down His life so that we might have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our sins, according to the riches of His grace. God loved "us" so very much that He sent His dearly Beloved Son, whom He knew would freely lay down His life on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins, so that whoever would believe in Jesus would not perish, but have everlasting life! This is why we should always continue on in the love of Jesus. Consider also these verses:
“I am the good shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known by Mine. As the Father knows Me, even so know I the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. And I have other sheep, which are not of this flock; they also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice; and there shall be One flock, and One Shepherd. Therefore My Father Loves Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again." (John 10:14-17)
“As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Continue you in My love. If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is My commandment: that you love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:9-13)
"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those also who shall believe on Me through their word; that they all may be one; as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us; so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. And the glory which You gave to Me I have given to them; so that they may be one, even as We are One; I in them, and You in Me, so that they may be made perfect into oneness; and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them, just as You have Loved Me. Father, I will that they also, whom You have given to Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory, which thou have given Me; for You Loved Me before the foundation of the world! O Righteous Father, the world has not known You; but I have known You, and these have known that You have sent Me. And I have declared unto them Your Name, and will declare it; so that the Love with which You have Loved Me may be in them, and I in them." (John 17:20-26)Through Jesus, the Beloved Son of the Father, we, ourselves, have now become 'beloved' of our Lord God and Father in Heaven:
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ; according as He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love; having predestined us unto the adoption of children through Jesus Christ to Himself , according to the good pleasure of His will, To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He has made us accepted in the Beloved, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace;" (Ephesians 1:3-7)
"But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren 'beloved' of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and faith in the Truth. For this He called you through our Gospel, to the obtaining of the Glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14)
