the BEGINING AND END
"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with Me, to give to every man according as his work has been. I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last. Blessed are they who do His commandments, that they may have right to the Tree of Life, and may enter in through the gates into the City." (Revelation 22:12-14)
Begining : from the Greek word arche which means"the beginning, origin, commencement, or rule, of some action or event, or thing."
End : from the Greek word telos which means"an end; termination, completion; or the principal end, aim, purpose, or goal, of some act or event." The title the Beginning and the End is also used in reference to the Father:
"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away." And He who sat upon the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said unto me, "Write: for these words are true and faithful." And He said unto me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give unto him who is thirsty of the fountain of the water of life freely. He who overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be His God, and he shall be My son."" (Revelation 21:1-7)The uniqueness of the title the Beginning and the End is in understanding that the two words, the Beginning, and the End, rather than being mere terms of opposite meaning when understood separately, instead represent a singular title of both the Son, and the Father, that illustrates their unified role in the commencement, plan, purpose, and consummation of the present heaven and earth creation: from the time it was all created in the past, to the time it shall all 'pass away' in the future. Consider these verses:
"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." (Genesis 1:1)
"And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of The Creation of God; (Revelation 3:14)
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Same (Jesus) was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him (Jesus); and without Him (Jesus) was not any thing made that was made. In Him was Life; and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehends it not." (John 1:1-5)
"For by Him (Jesus) all things were created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers; all things were created by Him, and for Him. And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist. (Colossians 1:16-17)Jesus said,
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For truly I say unto you, untill heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (Matthew 5:17-18)
"For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one who believes. (Romans 10:4)When Jesus calls Himself the Beginning and the End, within the context of the whole Word of God, from the beginning verse in Genesis to the ending verse in Revelation, He is speaking of Himself as being the beginning-origin of all Creation; and thus all history, all dominion and rule, all prophecy and Law, and all that will be fufilled in and through Christ Jesus to the end of the age. When all the Word of God is thus fufilled, both that in the Law of Moses and in the Prophets; then shall Jesus be the fulfillment of the Law and the end of the law; and all that is said of Himself within. Then Jesus shall become the End of creation, as it says,
"For truly I say unto you, untill heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." (Matthew 5:18) And again,"And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away;..." (Revelation 21:1) The ending of the old, and the begining of the new, is in and through Jesus! It is, and always will be all about Jesus, from the begining of creation to the end of the present age, and beyond - forever and ever, and always and always!
