ARM OF THE LORD

"Who has believed our report? And to whom is the Arm of the LORD revealed? For He (speaking of the promised Messiah - Jesus) shall grow up before Him (the Father) as a Tender Plant, and as a Root out of a Dry Ground. He has no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. He is despised and rejected by men; a Man of Sorrows, and acquainted with grief." (Isaiah 53:1-3)

"My soul is now troubled; and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour.' but for this purpose came I unto this hour. Father, glorify Your name.' Then there came a voice from heaven, saying, 'I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.' The people therefore, who stood nearby, and heard it, said that it thundered. Others said an angel spoke to Him. But Jesus answered and said, 'This voice came not for Me, but for your sakes.' Now judgment is upon this world; and now the ruler of this world shall be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, shall draw all men unto Myself.' This He said, signifying what kind of death He should die. But the people answered Him, 'We have heard out of the law 'that the Christ shall abide forever,' so why do You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up? who is this Son of Man?' Then Jesus said unto them, 'Yet for a little while is the Light with you. Walk while you have the Light lest darkness come upon you; for he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the Light believe in the Light, that you may be the children of the Light. These things spoke Jesus, and then He departed, and hid Himself from them. However, even though He had done so many miracles before them, nevertheless they did not believe on Him; so that the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, 'Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the Arm of the Lord been revealed?' (see Isaiah 53:1) Therefore they could not believe, because of what Isaiah said again, 'He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; so that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.' (see Isaiah 6:10) These things spoke Isaiah, when he saw His (Jesus) glory, and spoke of Him." (John 12:27-41)

Arm: from the Hebrew word uzərowa (zeroa) which means: an arm, one of two upper limbs of the human body; figuratively: strength, might, power. The word 'Arm' is often used figuratively to refer to God's ability to accomplish things with His Mighty Strength and Power. Consider these verses:

"O sing unto the Lord a new song; for He has done marvellous things. His Right Hand, and His Holy Arm, have gained for Him the victory." (Psalms 98:1)

"The Lord has made bare (revealed) His Holy Arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the Salvation of our God." (Isaiah 52:10)

"Now the LORD saw, and it displeased Him that there was no justice; and He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no Intercessor. Therefore His Arm brought Salvation unto Him; and His righteousness, it sustained Him." (Isaiah 59:16)

"Ah Lord God; behold, You have made the heaven and the earth by Your great power and outstretched Arm, and there is nothing too hard for You." (Jeremiah 32:17)

LORD: from the Hebrew word YHWH which means: Yahweh, or Yehovah: the proper name of the God of Israel. The-one-who-is; the-existing-one, the eternally existing Supreme Being. (the absolute and unchangeable one, always and forever living; the self-consistent-one). Usually translated with capital letters "LORD' or 'GOD' - (But in some translations: Yahweh or Jehovah).

The proper name of God, YHWH (Yahweh), is closely related to the title 'I AM' in Exodus where "God said unto Moses, 'I AM who I AM' - and He said, 'Thus shall you say unto the children of Israel, I AM has sent me (Moses) unto you.' " (Exodus 3:14). The Hebrew word used, for I AM. is ehyeh."

The LORD God is the eternally existing Supreme Being; and in context the Arm of the LORD, Jesus, is inseparable from the LORD God, and is thus also forever eternally existing!

The context, in Isaiah, of this prophetic title of Jesus, the Arm of the LORD, begins with the question, "Who has believed our report;" or perhaps “Who will believe this prophetic revelation concerning the sufferings of the promised Messiah!' The context continues, in Isaiah, by describing in detail the sufferings and sorrows, and griefs that our Lord Jesus Christ would experience during the time of His first coming. (see Isaiah 53)

The context, in the Gospel of John, concerning this prophetic title of Jesus, the Arm of the LORD, is that of the imminent fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy, as Jesus said, “My soul is now troubled; and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour.' but for this purpose came I unto this hour. Father, glorify Your name." (John 12:27) This was the hour, or time to fulfill the prophetic word of Isaiah 53, His crucifixion on the Cross of Calvary for the forgiveness of sin, and the eternal salvation for all persons who put their trust and faith in Jesus. But grief upon sorrows awaited the first coming of the The Arm Of The LORD!

Consider again what the Apostle John wrote:

“However, even though He had done so many miracles before them, nevertheless they did not believe on Him; so that the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, 'Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the Arm of the Lord been revealed?' Therefore they could not believe, because of what Isaiah said again, 'He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; so that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them." (John 12:37-40)

Unbelief was certainly one of the chief sorrows that brought grief to His soul. But all was not lost; for what does it say:

“...let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our Faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the Right Hand (at the the Right Arm) of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

In the midst of unbelief; amongst all the harden hearts towards Jesus, there are those believers on the narrow road that leads to eternal life in Christ Jesus; believers who have put their trust and their faith in the Tender Plant – who is the Arm and Strength of our Father in Heaven. Consider what Mary, the mother of Jesus, and a true believer, had to say:

"My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden; for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For He who is mighty has done to me great things; and Holy is His Name. And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation. He has showed strength with His Arm; He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted those of low degree. He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy; as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to His seed forever." (Luke: 1:46-55)

Consider also this passage from Isaiah:

"O Zion, that brings good tidings, go up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that brings good tidings, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold, the Lord GOD will come with a strong hand, and His Arm shall rule for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him. He shall feed His flock like a Shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His Arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." (Isaiah 40:9-11)

    Jesus is ...
the Arm of the LORD

The Strong-One, the Mighty-One,
who sits at the Right Hand of the throne of God the Father!
And Jesus shall rule for His Father forever!

But first Lord Jesus You endured the sorrows, and the sufferings, and the agony;
and the pains of the Cross in our place – Why?
You did it for the Joy set before You! And because of the Father's great love for us!

You have gained the Victory for the Father - even our salvation!
He shall feed His flock like a Shepherd! He shall gather us lambs with His Arm, and carry us in His bosom!
Your Mercy is upon those who fear You from generation to generation!

Truly, truly, You are the strength of my life!     Amen and Amen!
