Keel Repairs

When I initially hauled the boat in San Diego, I found a pretty grievous hole at the bottom of the aft tip of the keel. The PO had just done the bottom paint three months before sale, and had no idea when it happened. He did report a grueling return trip after the Newport to Ensenade race, and maybe somebody hit something when he was off watch.

After transporting the boat, I spent a few days in the yard, repairing this damage along with a few other tasks.

After chipping out the loose fiberglass, I discovered, much to my joy, that the entire aft six inches of the keel is cosmetic, containing no ballast nor pathways to the keel interior. So I just used your basic fiberglass auto-body repair kit to restore the lines of the keel. As a rank amatuer, I spent a little more time than necessary, not getting a sugfficient number of fiberglass cloth layers until the third iteration. Anyway, I eventually managed to fair the repair and re-do the bottom paint in the area. There were also several spots where the prior bottom painting was poor - mostly where the jack stands had been.
