Gut Ornum and Ornum Mühle, Kirchspiel Kosel, Eckernförde, Schleswig

Both water and wind mills were located at Ornum Mühle. A watermill is mentioned here in 1629. One watermill was destroyed by fire 07. Februar, 1810. At least three types of windmills stood here over the years: a Bockmühle; a Galerieholländer, circa 1800-1864; and the last, a Kellerholländer, was dismantled in 1902. Today nothing remains from any of the watermills, but the stone cellar from the Kellerholländer exists.

In 1785 14 Tonnen of land [approximately 23 acres] accompanied the mill.

Some known operators of Ornum Mühle:

1733 + 1763 Cay Lorenz Bevensee, born circa 1703, died 1770
1764 + 1766 Franz Hermann Bevensee, born 1735 [1767 Müller at K. Sehestedt]
1785 Claus Boock

Ornum Mühle circa 1800. The stream at this point is known as Koseler Au....from its beginning until it reaches the village of Kosel, it is known as Kollholmer Au. It flows past Ornum Mühle and empties into a body of water known as Ornum Noor. Ornum Noor is an arm of a larger body of water known as Schlei, an inland extension of the Ostsee. The watermill shown may have been the one that burned in 1810. The windmill is a Galerieholländer.
