Additional Information:

According to the church book at Falling parish, Nikolai and his wife Marie left the parish and moved to Tirsbæk Slot in Engum parish, Vejle county, Denmark in 1827. There were two watermills on this estate: Tirsbæk Overmølle, a sawmill built circa 1850, and Tirsbæk Nedermølle, a grain mill. Bevensen operated the Nedermølle from 1827 until circa 1834. At one time there was also a bakery in this mill. Today, this mill still stands, but the waterwheel is gone, and it has been placed on a concrete foundation. This mill appeared in a drawing from 1823.
Nikolai Bevensen moved to Norway during the 1840's specifically to build grain mills. Today, there are three mills known to have been built by him.
One was located at Mylledalen ["Mill Valley"] in Madla parish. Today it is known as Møllebukta. The first mill recorded at this place was in the year 1270. Bevensen built at least one of the grain mills here about 1848. This mill was powered by a waterfall. There were three mills located here and they were all torn down circa 1907. There are no remains of this mill today, but the property is cared for by the farmer Arne Jørpeland. He has restored a storehouse on the site which dates to 1750. This storehouse, built on pillars, was located near Bevensen's mill. Runner stones from the mill remain and a part of a bedstone, and a stone wall that was connected to Bevensen's mill, however this wall probably pre-dates Bevensen's mill. The Madla Historical Society plans to build a reproduction of this mill in 2004, funded by the Stavanger commune.
The second mill he built was located at Kvernavika ["Mill Bay"] today known as Kvernevik, also in Madla parish. Bevensen built this grain mill in 1850. It was closely linked to the town of Stavanger. Wheat, barley and rye was shipped to Kvernevik and the finished flour and meal was shipped back to Stavanger. This mill was destroyed by fire in 1909. In 1915 an electricity producing station was built there.
The third mill he built was located on Stord, an island in Hordaland county on the western coast of Norway, just north of Stavanger. Nikolai went there in 1870 and built Frugaard's Mill for Rasmus Aare. It was one of the biggest grain mills in western Norway and was powered by the water from Frugaard falls. In 1908 it began producing electricity for the Island. The mill was expanded several times to increase it's capacity. This mill was later sold to Thomas Olsen who operated it along with his sons until the 1950's. At this time the local farmers stopped growing grain and began producing milk instead. Today this mill is gone, but the home of the miller and a storehouse remain. At present this property is cared for by the Sunnhordland Folkemuseum.

Two months before Nikolai married Berta Serine Ånensdatter he bought Farm #21, a small parcel of the greater farm Refvem, created by the division of Farm # 19. He paid for it in two installments: one on 12. 07. 1854 and the second 05. 07.1862. He later bought Farm #25 on 29. 06. 1868. This parcel was created by a division of Farm #24.
The census of 1865 said that the crops being grown by the Bevensen's were barley, oats and potatoes. In addition they owned 16 sheep and 1 pig. The census of 1875 said that the crops being grown were oats and potatoes and the family owned 5 sheep and 1 cow.
Bevensen sold Farm #'s 21 and 25 on 05. 11. 1881 to Frederik Ingebretsen Kyllingstad for 2,400 Kroner. Frederik was soon to be Bevensen's son-in-law. In 1882 Kyllingstad and his wife Ane (nee Bevensen) leased these farms to David Tørresen, husband of Ane's sister Johanna.
Ane and Frederik then went to live at Farm #16 at Farm Nore Sunde [also in Madla parish and 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) north of Farms 21 and 25]. The Kyllingstad's sold Farm #21 and #25 on 05. 07. 1892 to David and Johanna Tørresen. The Tørresen's finished paying the mortgage 18. 08. 1894. They bought the property for their eldest son David, but he left for the USA and never went back. He sold the property to his brother Tøres in 1926. The property was later sold to Håkon Riska and then to Arthur and Borghild Hebnes, who owned it in 2003.Today this name is spelled Revheim. Bevensen's home and barn still stand and are located 100 meters [328 feet] north of Revheim Church. Today this area is part of the city of Stavanger, Norway
