Four children are known to have been born to them at Williamsburg Note: They had ten children living with them in 1834. One source says that they married in 1834, so perhaps these children were of a former marriage?
After the death of Carl Heinrich in 1860 she managed the estate until her death in 1890. She was known as a very clever lady and each night before going to bed, would walk the estate and make sure things were all okay. She had her female servants spin and weave every evening and when she died her heirs found the largest room in her house filled with textiles. In 1889 she donated the organ for Daugård parish church.

Additional Information:
Chr. Heilskov wrote: "Later came Joachim Diderich Bevensee born in Kosel in Slesvig 1774; he was here 1834 and died 1853. He and his wife Louise Elisab. Henriette Pauline Langhoff often spoke plattysk to each other. Bevensee was a very wealthy man. Of his four daughters the youngest was married to manor owner Martini of Williamsborg. She donated the organ for Daugaard church."
[Plattysk, or Low [Lowland] German was spoken in the areas of Schleswig and Holstein. Bevensee was the copyholder of Vads Mølle from 1810 to 1853. Heilskov mistakenly wrote that Diedrich Bevensee's wife was Louise Elisabeth Henriette Pauline Langhoff. She was his housekeeper, and appeared as such in the 1840 census, while Bevensee appeared as a widower. She does not appear in the 1845 or 1850 census, and Bevensee still as a widower. Also, it was his second oldest daughter who was married with the manor-owner Martini and donated the organ.]
Anders Eriksen wrote: "In 1816 Joachim Diderik Bevense got the mill. He appears to have been a very jovial fellow and was often godfather at baptisms, he was among other things godfather at my own fathers baptism in Kjærsgaard in 1818. Bevense was born in 1774 in Holm Mølle in Holsten. Presumabley Bevense's father had the Vejrmøllen [a windmill] by Dybvad.
Bevense had two daughters the eldest of whom was born in Holsten the other one in Slesvig. They were both married to sons of Jens Leth earlier of Lundhof now from Damgaard. Maria Elisabeth Bevense born in 1810 was married to Kristian Leth in Halkjær, he was born in 1801, and Sofie Elisabeth Bevense, born in Oldenhoff, Slesvig in 1803 was married to Niels Jensen Leth of Damgaard father to the late Sognefoged [parish executive officer] Leth of Damgaard."
[Bevensee had four daughters. The oldest three were all born at Bornstein, Gut Altenhof , K. Gettorf , Eckernförde, Schleswig. The youngest, Marie Elisabeth Bevensee, was born in 1811 at Vads Mølle; Christian Leth was born in 1810]
Typographical Information:
Holm: a small village located in Kosel parish, Eckernförde known today as Götheby-Holm. It was once known as Holmslehen and, with several other villages, belonged to the Abbacy Hütten. In 1854 a watermill and a windmill were located here. Holm consisted of 3 Vollhufen, and 9 Kathen. A Vollhufen consisted of 60 acres of land; a Kath was a rented cottage. A small lake is located nearby Holm and the soil was said to be lightweight and sandy.
Vads Mølle: located in Falling parish, Århus county, Denmark. It's name is derived from the Danish words "Vads", which refers to a crossing ,or ford, in a stream and Mølle which is mill. The mill was water-powered, and located along a very small stream called Åkjær Å [today known as Åkær Å], which runs south to the town of Horsens. This stream was dammed up, creating the mill pond. Water was channeled through a flume to the waterwheel.
Vads Mølle was a small part of Åkjær Estate [today Åkær]. This estate contained 1, 992 acres of farmland and 1, 077 acres of forest. A member of the Danish nobility owned the estate and then leased the place known as Vads Mølle. This lease was known as a copyhold. Along with the mill itself also came farmland, a home and outbuildings.
Author J.C.B. la Cour gave this information about Vads Mølle:
"Mail office and station located at Falling, a distance of about 1 1/2 km [2.5 miles]. The property is situated close to, and west of, the town of Ålstrup and is about 18 km [29 miles] from Horsens.
Land register number 1b of Åkjær.
Area: 31.69 acres. Of that: farmland = 23.17 acres; millpond and roads = 4.08 acres; grass field = 2.7 acres; garden and courtyard = 1.75 acres.
The soil composition is partly mossy, partly sandy. The terrain is somewhat hilly.
The main house, which is surrounded by the garden, faces southerly. It is built of bricks and, like the Millhouse, has a tile roof. The farm buildings are constructed of half-timbering and granite, with thatched roofs, and are the replacements for the ones destroyed in a fire during the 1850's. The stable was built in 1897.
The area I find very scenic: close to Horsens Fjord, surrounded by picturesque hills, valleys, forests and streams."
Chr. Heilskov wrote: "The mill, which has always been under copyhold under Åkjær manor, is mentioned the first time in 1584, and at that time Rasmus Clemitzen was living there. It was decided at this time that the mill at Vads Mølle would be shut down. In exchange for loosing his copyhold, Rasmus Clemitzen was granted the grain from the fields that were included in his copyhold and also that Clemitzen would take up the position of miller at Fillerup Mølle, where the present miller would resign. But the mill at Vads Mølle was not closed. The mill was again mentioned in 1645 following a war between Sweden and Denmark. A report was written as to the condition of the mill and said: 'The mill house is very decayed, the ceiling totally ruined, but the roof is all right.' In 1787 the name of the mill was briefly changed to 'Vase Mølle'."
Operators of Vads Mølle according to Heilskov:
1584 was Rasmus Clemitzen.
1688-1692 was Jens Mortensen. [+ 18.05.1692 at Vads Mølle]
ca. 1700 -1744 was Søren Sørensen. [Resided at Vads Mølle from at least 1692-1747; age 48 in the 1700 census; + 05. 06. 1747 at Vads Mølle; oo Mette Jensdatter [daughter of Møller Jens Mortensen] before 1692. Søren re-married with Anne Marie Pedersdatter Alrø. Their known children: Anne, + at Vads Mølle 1707]
1744-1762 was Jacob Rind. [* 1691, + at Vads Mølle 15. 11. 1762; oo 1732 with Catharina Hiersing (* 1704; + 1744 at Vads Mølle); known children: Bendix Matthias, * ca. 1733; Hedvig Margrethe, * 1737, + 1739 at Vads Mølle; Hedvig Benedicte, [ ] 1740 at 6 days old; Anne Marie, * ? and Christen, * ca. 1738. Resided at Vads Mølle from at least 1739-1762]
ca. 1762 - 1770 was Jacob Eriksen Lüxdorph. He died in 1770. His daughter, Maren, and her husband Christen Rind, then inherited the mill. [Jacob Eriksen Lüxdorph was the brother of Maren, not her father. Her father was Erik Jacobsen Lüxdorph. Christen Jacobsen Rind oo Maren Erichsdatter Lüxdorph of Testrup in 1763. Known children born at Vads Mølle: Jacob, * 1767; Anne * 1769; a son, possibly named Erich, * 1778 and Jacobine, * ca. 1785. The census of 1787 found the operators of Vads Mølle to be Christen and Maren Rind]
1801 was Maren Lüxdorph Rind, married with Christen Rind. They were present the night the mill burned on 29.04. 1813. [Maren Rind is listed as a widow living at Vads Mølle in the 1801 census. Christen Jacobsen Rind + 03.12.1794, so the couple couldn't have been present the night of the fire. Diedrich Bevensee entered into the copyhold, or lease, on Vads Mølle 08. 02. 1810,[according to his probate] so it seems most likely that he was the one present]
Circa 1820 was a man with the last name Leth [this is incorrect]
1834-1853 was Jochim Diderich Bevensee [these dates should be 1810-1853]
1870 was Peder Olsen
1912 was J. P. Westergaard
Anders Eriksen wrote: "Vads Mølle burned 29 April, 1813 and it is thought the widow Rind had given up the lease on the mill. In 1816 Joachim Diderik Bevense got the mill. Bevense had the mill until 1845 then aged 71. After that there were several people who had it for short periods of time, among others Laursen, until Jørgen Pedersen of Amstrup got it and kept it for many years until about 1900. At that time it was taken over by Jørgen P. Westergaard from Gylling. It was sold about 1913 to Jens Jørgen Pedersen in Amstrup, a son of Jørgen Pedersen, who moved with his son to the old mill and died there."
[Bevensee entered into the first copyhold on Vads Mølle 08.02. 1810, so the widow Rind had given up the lease by 1813. This copyhold date seems to give strong evidence that Bevensee was present the night that the mill burned. Since he would have been skilled as a carpenter, perhaps he helped to re-build the structure after the fire. Bevensee entered into a second copyhold agreement to lease Vads Mølle 18.09. 1816 and this copyhold continued until his death in January, 1853. It was Bevensee's wish that the copyhold on Vads Mølle be returned to the owner of Akjær estate upon his death and not inherited by his survivors, as it could have been]
The Danish census for 1834, 1840, 1845 and 1850 found Bevensee the lessee of Vads Mølle.
Eriksen also included this information about Vads Mølle:
"The damming of the water used for Vads Mølle had damaged the nearby meadows. The spillage of the water in the summer was not taken seriously, and in the winter the meadows were completely under water. In 1797 Nath, the owner of Åkjaer, complained to the rentekamret [an official] that the mills water level damaged his meadow, but when it was learned that he himself was the owner of the mill, which was leased to Christen Rind, the rentekamret did not think that Nath should pursue the complaint."
Another source says that the mill was first mentioned in 1571 as Watzmølle.
Living in Bevensee's household at Vads Mølle:
1834 - 4 male farm hands; 3 maids and 3 mill helpers
1840 - 1 housekeeper; 3 farm hands; 2 maids and 3 mill helpers
1845 - 1 housekeeper; 2 maids; 2 farm hands; 2 apprentice millers and 1 mill helper
1850 - 2 housekeepers; 2 maids; 4 farm hands and 2 mill helpers
The mill fell out of use during the early 20th century and the building was gone as early as 1941. Most of the buildings, except the mill building, were destroyed by a fire in 1850, according to Heilskov, while la Cour says that the fire occurred in the 1850's. These buildings were re-built using half timbering and granite. Based on the probate record for Diedrich Bevensee it seems most probable that the fire occurred after May, 1853.
