Bipedal Human Gait : A 3d Interactive Model with Animation

Human Gait Analysis with motion capture video systems and interactive 3d modeling systems help doctors analyze, diagnose, and document aberrant gaits with tools that compare the gaits of patients before and after treatment to historical case studies of normal and abnormal gaits.

This   interactive 3d model   animates a normal adult male gait, a video motion capture system at a medical research laboratory collected the data.

You can rotate the 3d model, and start and stop the animation.

  "Clinical Gait Animation"

cannot be viewed on your system

as it is presently configured.

Your browser is not configured to run Java.

You need a version 3.0 or better Netscape or MiSE browser
and a modern operating system ( Windows95, Macintosh, Unix ).

Java is the language of the internet and of the future.

The 3d model can be  scaled, rotated, and translated  ( moved )   See below.

Better model needed ?   Find out how to
animate VRML models, create ".mov" videos
with Java3d, VRML, and the Java JMF
  • View video clips of the model created with Java3d
  • View the VRML 3d model ( plug-in required )
  • Resources, Tutorials, etc.

Need Speed ?   Need a more detailed model ?   Java3d is faster and it can use hardware graphics accelerators.

Instructions :

This program is under development and new features are being added.

This is a partial implementation of a richer 3d animation program.

Esthetics are generally secondary technical considerations at this point, but even this rough animation provides considerable guidance to me.

I'm not striving for realism; as a skilled artist can capture the essense of person with few sketched lines, I'm seeking a minimalist solution that is pleasing and is accessable to the largest possible audience which implies Java and simple models.

On the other hand, you and I have 206 bones, so I'll create a 'true' human skeleton for educational purposes.

Runs slowly on slow machines.   Baseline platform is 300 M-Hz. Pentium class machine.

The 3d model has 51 sequences per cycle and should run ( walk ) smoothly.

Future Features :

  • 3d Viewer : View & Rotate 3d, shaded objects   interactively
  • 3d VRML Avatar Poser :   H-Anim People Poser ( requires VRML plug-in )
  • Math is a Game :   Math + Java = Graphics & Animation
  • Imaging the Imagined :    Modeling with Math & a Keyboard
  • If the animation doesn't run smoothly . . .   it may be your fault.
