Well,
ever since I published the BLOG below on the "Perdition" server, I
have not been able to find that server or the IP!
I guess that the Boycott worked??? OR Maybe a Reader / Hacker Hacked that server & put it out of its misery!???
I certainly hope that that poor excuse for a UT99 server & its admin is
permanently put out of service!
Servers like that, mainly its idiotic player / admin should never be allowed to
grace the net!
Thanks be to who or whatever destroyed it! LOL

Well, it is a New Year Again! - HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!
Wow and UT99 is Still GOING STRONG! Seven plus years
now!
The time has gone so fast. It seems like just a few months ago I
received UT99 for Christmas of 1999!
I had played it before on someone else’s computer. I thought it
was great!
I then found out that there was also included with the game a 3D
editor called UnrealED2.
Oh boy, I had to check this thing out. I already loved doing
graphics on the computer.
The thing (UnrealED2) was confusing and a bit scary the first
few times I looked at it.
It wouldn't do much of anything no matter what I tried to do.
I put UnrealED2 away for awhile then took another look at it
months later.
Time to hit the internet to find out about UnrealED2!
Well, in no time I was soaking up anything & everything I
could find on UnrealED2.
In those days there was not a whole lot out there yet about
UnrealED2.
Epic Games didn't give any clue as to how to use
UnrealED2. I started out doing a 2-room tutorial.
I finished it but kept right on building on to it.
This "Gem" ended up being my first map I published for
UT99 called DM-FragginsteinCastle.
It became very popular in those days and is still on the online
servers today.
In fact, it is still one of the top ten downloaded UT99 DM maps
on File Planet. (Last I Looked LOL)
And to think it started out as a tutorial map! LOL
The tutorial part of the map is way down in the lowest part of
the underground dungeons.
If you want to find out where this is, download the map from
either of my sites, or from many sites on the net.
Look where the mirror is on the wall in the corridor between two
rooms.
These two rooms & the corridor between them made up the
tutorial that I started from - with a few decorations of course.
In a "nut shell", I was "Hooked" on mapping
- Big Time!
I still have several "Beta" maps that I shelved some
time ago. I hope to finish these soon.
I may post these Beta maps in my Beta Download section on the
Map Download page on both of my sites soon.
A couple of these beta maps are becoming very fun to play.
I guess what I am trying to say here is that if the UnrealEd2
looks hard but you would like to map, try it.
It is not that bad once you know how to use UnrealEd2, really.

"Perdition" per-dish'-un (apoleia, “ruin” or “loss,”
physical or eternal):
The word “perdition” occurs in the English Bible 8 times.
In each of these cases, it denotes the final state of ruin and
punishment which forms the opposite to salvation.
The verb apolluein, from which the
word is derived, has two meanings: (1) to lose; (2) to destroy.
Both of these pass over to the noun, so that apoleia
comes to signify: (1) loss; (2) ruin, destruction.
Another meaning: a state of punishment which goes on for ever,
suffered by evil people (UT players???) after death.
Another meaning I found: a (ahem) UT99 server ie. "[PURE] Perdition Deck16" - admin:
"Perdition" aka "View" IP: 64.154.38.16:7777
This server is REALLY Living Up to its Name! LOL Ruining UT99 &
Punishing forever its Players! LOL
Actually, the server itself isn't that bad. It played fair to
well with only occasional heavy lag for some players, including myself.
It is set up nicely though with No Power-ups & No Redeemer! (I am not much
for power-ups other than normal health or the redeemer either in smaller maps)
This is why I originally went into this server!
I was looking for a decent server to replace one of the servers
that I played in quite a bit, one I mentioned in the earlier BLOG about
Cheaters.
The server is called something like "Nerds Network” server
(the one that has Deck16 on all the time) and is a “PURE” cheat protected
server! It had a problem with lag that I had ignored for years, then, in the
past few months, Cheaters have gotten into this server! (for
real) That was the straw that broke it for me.
That is why I went casually looking for a replacement server for
this now corrupt server.
Well, I stumbled on to "[PURE] Perdition Deck16" -
admin: "Perdition" aka "View" IP: 64.154.38.16:7777 - Big Mistake!!!
At first it seemed very nice. It had less lag than my old Deck16
server & I assumed it was impervious to cheaters.
I was doing very well against the other players in there which
varied between 5 to 8 players.
I won the match a few times and stayed mostly from middle to
second position on the rest of the games I played. That was More
than I could care to want in a server. I mostly play for fun & not
necessarily to win! I thought I had found a new favorite Deck16 server to
replace my old haunt. Well it was nice until 2 "players" came in.
These 2 players called themselves "View" and "Pennywise". Pennywise was
on a par with or slightly better than myself. View seemed to go like
lightening, seemed to be everywhere and tore up the scoreboard with extremely
high scores with very few deaths. I noticed that somebody said something and in
a very short time was banned from the server. I had not paid much attention to
the chat. I figured it was probably someone that had given the admin trouble
before so I ignored it. Then I noticed some more chat between View &
Pennywise. They were saying things like "I need some back up" &
the other would answer "Roger that!" Some other player or players
would usually die right after the communication between them. It then happened
to me several times when I was fighting with either of them. The other would
come up behind you & let you have it. I thought, well OK, they are helping
each other.
I didn't think that they needed it though. I also began to
notice that View seemed to sustain very little damage when fired upon.
Sometimes I let View have it with 2 or 3 direct hits with rockets. He fired at
me and I died.
He went on to fight with others. One time I emptied my chain gun
into him only to be killed by him. He went on fighting again! Well, I hated to,
but I finally said that I suspected him. He said "Of what?" I asked
him "Are you running a cheat?” View came back with "I Own this server!" (Not meaning he is good on the server
- he was the actual owner & admin of the server, which I new he was)
View then said a bunch of very nasty (and I might add Very
Inaccurate) stuff to and about me along with input from his bud Pennywise who
was also ranting at and about me. Holy Smokes did I strike a cord or what?
I reminded them that I am probably wrong, that I meant it in a
"nice" way and that I just hated cheating.
If I was wrong just say so. Maybe they both, or at least View
for sure, just had a very good connection.
View then switched me to Spectator mode where he moved my view
from player to player.
He then focused on Pennywise saying to watch & learn how
Pennywise plays. Oh, and Of Course they threw in many times that I was a
NOOBIE. They mainly tried to belittle me by treating me as a Newcomer,
pretending to be showing me how to play, all along with the nasty comments!
Can you imagine? LOL Then in a matter of seconds I was Kicked
& Banned from the server! What a little punk primo Donna!
The server was OK but the admin/owner, "View" aka
"Perdition" was definitely NOT good for UT!!!
He was WAY OFF on his judgment of myself
and apparently others also that he has banned as I witnessed. I have played
with Pennywise on other servers before or at least with someone using that
name. He didn't chat much and played medium to well.
But View - Boy was he a little Punk Brat Primo Donna
with a Huge Ego! LOL
As much as I hate to use it, I will in this case -> View really fits being called a "NOOB"! I don't mean as in
newcomer.
I mean as in a player that has been around for at least awhile and
thinks they know everything and cannot be beat or taught anything by anybody!
Oh and he never answered my question - "was he running a cheat?" -
One that protected him? (His server didn't allow power-ups so if he was using
such a cheat, no one could equal him in the game - he may have just powered
himself up using his server commands)
Another player (I will not name him so he won't get banned) that
was in the server before and after I was rudely and wrongfully banned from the
server e-mailed me about the server.
He reported similar problems with View suspiciously dominating
all the players without much damage at all.
It wasn't just me! He noticed it also.
Myself & this other player are promoting the Boycott and ultimate
destruction of this server, mainly to rid the net of this Idiot admin named "View" aka
"Perdition" forever! PLEASE JOIN US!!! Boycott this server!

Well, View and his server for sure, and possibly Pennywise are
going to end up on my new page (coming soon) listing Bad, Detrimental UT99
servers & Players that are destroying the fun and life of UT99 and
Punishing UT99 players forever!

"NOOBs", "NOOBIEs",
"NUBEEs", NEWBIEs, Etc.! LOL
These
labels (above) seem to be one of the popular names that get flung at other
players online over the years. They are also very popular to use against
another player just to try to make them angry or to make them lose their cool.
If a normally great UT player is having a bad UT day for example, these names
get flung at them also! I am sure most of us have been called this name at
least once if not many times over the years. I have been, LOL, even by Newbies themselves. It seems that they were trying to pin
the label on me (or anybody else for that matter) just to shake it off of their
own tail! Even though I was playing pretty well & have been playing since
about 1999-2000. I have been called a Newbie even though I had a much higher
score than the one calling me that name LOL. One popular phrase that some
players (like the one I just mention above did) Bind to a key is: "I can tell by
the way you are playing that You Are a NOOB!" So you can see that
it has become a real Nasty habit for some players! It’s GETTING REAL OLD! It also seems to be
sort of a "cure-all" name to call another player just to belittle
them. This is Really a Shame! ALL of the players of UT
or any game were ALL Newbies to start with! It is
NOT a bad thing at all! In Fact, it is a GREAT thing indeed to have Newbies play this Great Game! I myself WELCOME Any & ALL Newbies to play this
game & Learn it well. I try to Help them! These
"New" players are what keeps this Old Game going & keeps it
Young! The New players will Become Old, well trained opponents in time! YES!!! We NEED More Newbies, especially now more than ever to keep UT99
alive! Instead of name calling & shunning these new players, Welcome them into our Great Game! Give them some tips &
Help them to become better players so you will always have new & good
players to play with & against in the future! I am very sure this is how
Most of the current UT players got their start also. You learned to play UT
well over time & became good players Over Time! NOT over night! So BE a
Great Player & don't use the word Newbie anymore! It is getting to be REAL
LAME when people do use it. There are some servers that will KICK YOU if you call
someone a Newbie! (FOR REAL!!!) Lets
get with these servers & start a New Wave going through UT server land. Newbies are NOT bad, They are
Great! (Oh & they can make you look good also LOL)
Next Up – Servers that are NOT supporting the game! – They are
destroying UT!

I have noticed lately that more & more CHEATERS are successfully
entering servers without being “Kicked”.
I can not see why anyone would want to use a cheat??? It has Got to be REALLY Boring!!!
Either the Cheats they are using are staying ahead of the
Anti-Cheat software the servers are using or maybe the Anti-Cheat software
makers are just not updating their software to stay in tune with the cheats!?!
I was in the “Nerds Network” server (the one that has Deck16 on
all the time) several times over the past month where Cheating was happening.
This has been a server that I frequented a lot over the years
& is a “PURE” cheat protected server!
Besides being killed by the cheats over & over, (even when
the cheater was from a different area in the map & killing several at once
LOL), I noticed that the cheater didn’t show up in the “Find Servers” window in
the players roster along with the other players on that server!
Everybody was angry at that guy but the server didn’t kick him.
He wasn’t even detected by the server! His name wasn’t there on
the roster even though he was playing on the server!
Another time I was on that server, several were cheating (I
won’t go into how I knew), but no-one seemed to even care when I pointed it
out.
They came down on ME as IF I was the “bad guy” on the server!
I still like playing on that server but, needless to say, I
check it out right away.
If I detect a Cheat, I point it out, and then I get out of there
& go to another server!
This is something that I have been afraid might happen to UT99
on the online servers.
As the game gets older, less & less updating of the
anti-cheat software will happen. Soon there will be rampant cheating,
etc.
I guess then maybe there will have to be more “Private” servers
put up where you have to be screened & then if you pass you will be given a
password to get into the server. ???

I am concerned about “keeping” Good existing UT99 servers!
Please report to me (Hook) any you find while playing –
preferably UT99 servers that aren’t too cluttered up with mods,
etc.
I am also contemplating putting up my own server as I have in
the past.
This would be only an occasional server,
usually up late nights on Friday and/or Saturday.
I have found one Great UT99 Server lately called
something like [ZARK] Holly Cow or Mad Cow server.
I will have to get the exact IP address & Name when I can
next time I am on it! LOL
I Play it as much as I can, but cannot
remember exactly the name, etc.
It is set up really great. All the Players that I have met there
are really Great People & Sportspeople!
They play Fair, are Friendly & are
a Pleasure to play with in this server!
I hope to see you there! If you are there sometime, please
mention THIS site & the sister site to the players! J

to be a revival of UT99 (or maybe we are really just still playing UT99)

There are still many quality maps being made for UT99 these days.
Mappers are now incorporating new UT2K4 and 2K3 textures into
their recent works.
