Military Service

Date from 20 December 1862 to 1 November 1864
Place South Carolina
Description Confederate Service of John H. Reeves

Narrative

I feel sure this is the correct John H. Reeves, in the compiled service record cards he is listed as enlisting into Co. C, 4th SC Cavalry on either 31 December 1862 or 20 November 1862 at either Pickens or Camp Prichard SC, the same as his brother Hiram Reeves. John H. Reeves was also paid a $24.00 bounty for the use of his horse, just like his brother Hiram. John was then listed as being at the Fairview hospital at Lexington, Va from 06 August 1863 until 31 August 1863 with no cause as to injury or illness listed. John was later left at Pocotaligo SC for transfer to Capt Bachman's Co, Artillery (German Light Artillery), once again the same as his brother Hiram. After the transfer to the German Light Artillery on 4 February 1864 John was listed as “present” at all muster calls until 20 October 1864 when he was listed as “absent without leave”. The next record clears up the issue though and lists him as “sick in hospital at Pickens since Oct 20/64”.
