Description Confederate Service of King Hiram Reeves

Narrative

King Hiram Reeves entered into Confederate service in Co. C, 4th SC Cavalry either 1 Dec. 1862 or 20 Nov. 1862, depending on which service record card you believe. Hiram was paid a $50.00 bounty at the time he enlisted, so he would have provided his own horse and tack. Hiram was listed as being enlisted at Camp Pritchard by J.C. Calhoun, he served in the company until March 1864 when the company was determined to be “over the maximum number” and he was ordered transferred by Gen. Beauregard, he was left at Pocotaligo, SC for transfer into Capt Bachman's Co, Artillery (German Light Artillery) and, according to the service record cards, stayed in that company until 4 April 1864 when he was listed as “absent without leave” and was then listed as “Deserted” on the next service card. These are assumed to be the same person, the names and enlistment dates generally line up and they are found in common compiled service record packets and bookmarked to each other in the remarks section.
Hiram's headstone only lists his service in Co. C, 4th SC Cavalry.
