There is a great deal of history that goes with the hardware business in Cameron, WV since it first opened in 1895. It has had several owners, including Herbert and Faye Carmichael, until 1976 when they sold the business to Bill Monahan and his late wife Dee. The Monahan's moved the business, in 1981, from 9 Waynesburg Avenue to its current location of 52 Waynesburg Avenue.
This present building has its own history. Built in the late 1940's by Mr. Earle Rees this building was originally the garage for the Chevy dealership. During this time the showroom, offices, detailing room, and other areas of the business were housed in the upper part of the building that was later sold off as a dentist office. During the Vietnam War the building was home to the Buchimer Leather Factory where products were contracted and shipped to the armed services. Following the war the factory made leather coats. In 1981, Earle Rees sold the building to the Monahan's where the Cameron "True Value" Hardware has been located for the past 25 years. Thomas "Tucker" Conely, who grew up in Cameron but now resides in Florida, purchased the building in November 2006 making this the present sight of Hattie's Hometown Hardware.
