Greetings and welcome to our web site,
Quarterly I will provide information regarding burning, important events,
and issues related to fire and life safety. As fire season progresses
and restrictions
change we will post these changes as they occur. If you have a topic
you would like me to discuss please e-mail me at chief@gardenvalleyfire.net and
I will attempt to provide information in a timely manner.
As the end of winter draws near and the snow begins to leave
it becomes time to start thinking about "Defensible Space". What is Defensible
Space?
Defensible
Space is creating a reduction of fuel loading around your structures
and ingress/egress routes that allow for your safety and the safety of fire
fighters during a
fire event. There is a lot of information regarding Defensible Space
that
you can pick up at any of the following places:
• Garden Valley Fire Station
• Garden Valley Work Center
• U.S.F.S. (www.fs.fed.us)
You can also use your favorite internet search provider to
search on the term “Defensible
Space”. In general, reducing fuel loading around your structures
and driveways is where you would want to start.
In the Garden Valley Fire District, Burn Permit season begins May 10th
and ends the following July 1st…when at that time, no outdoor debris
burning is allowed at all due to elevated fire danger.
When conditions
improve, generally
in late September or October, burning may commence once again. Please
visit this
web site, call, or email to find out exact dates when burning can resume.
Extended prohibitions on open burning may be enforced due to weather
or other factors.
Exemptions to this policy will be considered, such as non-open
flame commercial incinerators.
July 1st will be here before you know it so be sure and get your burning
done early!
Keep in mind burn permits are only for burning organic matter.
Burning of man made products such as rubber, plastics and items
manufactured
with glue and
construction debris are only some of the items that are not allowed
to be burned in the State
of Idaho.
