This is from Donald Barnes via an email I received 3/5/2013. I have edited it slightly for easier reading. Bob I am trying to remember and hope maybe someone viewing your site remembers a flight out of Korat, on a C-123, about August 1971. I believe we were headed to Kwang Ju, Korea but had a mechanical problem and had to land on military base on Hainan, China. It was a very hot day, and we sat cramped for quite a while until the Chinese guards directed us to exit the plane and marched us to the flight line cafe. They fed us rice then marched us back to the plane where we were allowed to take off after the plane was repaired. My neighbor is a retired Navy Chief in the submarine service and he recalls reading about this in Stars and Stripes. Now I have searched their website but was not able to find any mention of this incident but my computer skills are lacking. Does anyone remember anything about this incident?
