The Flats Road (Route 258) between West Sparta and Groveland will be closed from March 23 to July 3 so that the bridge over Canaseraga Creek can be replaced.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: INTERSTATE 390 SOUTHBOUND TRAFFIC TO BE DETOURED IN LIVINGSTON COUNTY

Effective Saturday, February 14, traffic on Interstate 390 in the southbound direction only will be directed to exit the expressway at Exit 6 (Sonyea;) travel on State Route 36 south; and re-enter I-390 South at Exit 5 (Dansville). Detour signs will be posted. A temporary traffic signal is being placed at the top of the exit ramp at Route 36 to facilitate traffic flow. This detour is in the towns of Groveland and West Sparta, Livingston County.

Traffic is being detoured off the expressway because of soil erosion and pavement settlement concerns. It is uncertain at this time how long the detour will be in effect. A permanent repair project is slated to go out to bid on April 30, with construction work taking place this construction season.

West Sparta Code Enforcement and Zoning

Zoning Enforcement Officer:Keith English

To make a complaint regarding junk violations and zoning violations, the following form should be filled out as completely and accurately as possible and either mailed to or dropped off at the Town Hall. The location of the violation needs to be as specific as possible so the zoning enforcement officer (ZEO) can easily locate the problem. The person making the complaint should keep a copy in case the original gets misplaced.

West Sparta Code Enforcement Complaint Form (for Junk Violations and Zoning Violations)

Please note that the problem needs to be a violation of either the Town of West Sparta Junk Storage Law or a violation of the Town of West Sparta Land Development Code (Zoning Code). Copies of both of these documents are available at the Town Hall. If the complaint is not a violation of a Town Law then the ZEO can't do anything about it.

Although the town board does not accept anonymous complaints, it is understand that some people are concerned about maintaining their privacy. In this case a complaint can be submitted to the Planning Board, and the Planning Board will verify the problem, then pass it along to the ZEO with the name of a board member on it as the person making the complaint.

West Sparta Zoning Application West Sparta Permit Process

Anyone who wishes to apply for a building permit, special use (business) permit, or subdivision application (to split off one or more building lots, or adjust a property boundary, or make any other changes to their property) needs to fill out the Zoning Application and turn it in to the CEO/ ZEO.

From Marie Powell, Town Clerk "In the Outdoors News Paper I found an article that is about Town Clerks may have an option on licencse selling.

Albany it stating that Town Clerks across the state won't be required to sell sporting license under a proposal under consideration by the state Legislature.

The bills that would lift the town clerk license sales requirement are A159 and S59, and is included in part of a state budget bill that also creates a $10 trout and salmon stamp as well as a saltwater fishing license.

More information is on pages 1 and page 30 on the Outdoors News Paper."
