Doctor Bob,

I create large steel abstract kinetic sculptures that move in a complicated way. They usually have several abstract three-dimensional rotating units one inside the other on right angle axes. This causes strange motion effects because the rotation of each unit exerts forces on adjoining units. Currently I am working on models of new sculptures that will contain magnets on moving units that will interact with each other. Sort of like a chain-reaction whereas you cause a unit to move and its path of motion brings it into a location where a second unit is caused to move by repelling magnets. Soon, all the units are moving at random speeds and periods and directions.

Here is my question. Are there any books, magazines, science reports, experiments, or other sources that deal with complex motion caused by multiple magnet interaction. I'm a graduate sculpture student at CSUN. I like your WEB site, thanks for your help.

Chuck
