Found Type Collage Assignment 1

Visually depict one of the given terms below. Your only visual elements are letterforms that you find. All letterforms must be found, you may not generate any type for this project. The term must be included and readable within your composition. Begin by defining all terms, then select one to work with.

What is meant by “found type”?
Almost any material might be used. One thing for sure, you may not generate any type on the computer or from a copy machine. Press type or stencils are also excluded from the usable options. You are also not allowed to draw or paint any of the letterforms yourself.

Definitions and Student Solutions:

Eccentric
• deviating from a usual or accepted pattern, being off center, odd- whimsical
• the orbit or difference of the epicycle of the moon or a planet
• vary from some established type, pattern, or rule in anyway



Flection
• bend, fold, turn
• (spot, fleck, mark) the act of flexing or bending - a part bend
• the movement involving the bending of a joint, esp. between the bones of a limb by which the angle between the bones is diminished



Gomphosis
• to fasten with bolts
• a bolting together
• a union or immovable articulation in which a hard part is received into a bone cavity (teeth in its socket)



Homologous
• structural likeness between corresponding parts of different plants/animals due to evolution from common ancestors
• having the same relative position, proportion,value or structure - corresponding - in structure or function



Impetuous
• impulse or driving force, incentive, momentum
• marked by force and violence of movement or action
• hastily or rashly energetic or passionate
