Here's a critter we don't see very often at W&F. I suspect that a Pheasant might wind up on someone's dinner menu if it's seriously injured. This one will be released soon, just a minor concussion.

This Barred Owl is ready to be released and will probably be set free at a W&F event where there will be lots of people to witness its flight back into the wild. You can always recognize a Barred Owl, all of the other large owls have yellow eyes.

Here's another case of a mild concussion. This Red Tailed Hawk is ready to go.

Here's one of the most beautiful of the large owls. This is a Great Horned Owl. Notice the coloring on its "horns"....

I stopped by the Garrison Animal Hospital today to see Dr. Deb and found that a couple of raptors had been brought in for treatment this morning. One was small and the other was LARGE. The small one was a Merlin, one of the smaller hawks. It had been hit by a car. At the time I was there Dr. Deb hadn't had time to examine it yet. Beautiful bird!

The large bird was a juvenile Bald Eagle. It, too, had been hit by a car. In fact, it had been hit twice. The first hit sent it flying upward and the second hit occurred as it was falling back to the ground. It survived both hits and was brought to Dr. Deb. This bird will be sent to the Raptor Center at the U of M for treatment.
