Today we released another healthy critter back into the wild.  This is a Turkey Vulture that came to us with a broken wing after being hit by a car. We followed Dr. Deb to a secluded place away from people and traffic.  When we arrived the first order of business was getting this big bird out of the carrier.  They have a wingspan around 6 feet so it can sometimes be a problem getting them out.  Dr Deb seems to have a handle on it.

Once the bird was out it tested its wings.

After it settled down a little it was ready to go.  Notice the big smile on Dr Deb's face?

Here she has settled into her "Big Bird Release" stance.

She takes a step forward and begins the launch.

And away it goes!

The first downward flap of its wings gives it some more altitude as Dr Deb, Marian, and Becky watch.

Another flap and it's on its way.

Dr Deb claps as the bird heads for the woods.

The vulture has gained more altitude as it heads for a break in the trees.

We watched as it gained more altitude, found a thermal, turned, and soared past us still climbing.
