SPRING IS HERE!!!!
Spring has always been the busiest season for Wild and Free and this year is no different. We are overrun with orphaned young critters so we thought you'd like to see some of the young ones that we're taking care of right now. The great majority of these are orphans. It looks like the message concerning fawns is getting through recently. Of the 9 fawns presently with us only one was mistakenly taken from its mother.
Here's a box of bunnies. You can tell how small they are by comparing them to Dr Deb's finger in the lower right corner of the picture.

We don't see many of these. This is a really young weasel. It's eyes aren't even open yet.

Just to give you a little perspective, here's the same little weasel being held by Katie.

We've already had this little critter on the web. The baby beaver is still doing fine and is growing rapidly. It will be ready to be returned to the wild before long.

Here's a grumpy looking bird. I don't think it was thrilled to have its picture taken.

Here's another picture of the baby Great Horned Owl. In this picture you can see the beginnings of the feathers that will eventually give it its name.

The one wild critter that most people would like to keep as a pet is the young deer. Looking at this picture you can understand why, but please don't!

Very few people have ever seen a Pine Marten in the wild so this may be the first time you've seen one. This is a very young one. Don't let those baby blue eyes fool you, this member of the weasel family is a fierce predator.

When you look at this fuzzy little guy it's hard to picture what it will look like when it's a full grown Canadian Goose.

We have quite a few young raccoons to take care of. All of the critters have to be fed every day and some of them need a bath also. The raccoons fall into the second category. Here's Amy bathing a freshly fed youngster.

After the bath the baby is dried off with a towel and put back in the pen with the rest of the orphaned raccoons. I counted 7 while taking these pictures so you can imagine how wet Amy was by the time they had all been fed and bathed.
