Our last full day here started out like so many others recently, foggy.

Even when it's foggy people have to go to work.  This boat is set up so it can replace the poles in the water that hold the various warning signs.

We did our final walk on the beach then started packing for the trip home.  After lunch we took a break and went for a walk on the boardwalk.  One lonely little spoonbill taking a nap.

Here's a series of shots of a Great Blue Heron that was perched on the railing.

I thought I'd try to get a shot of it as it took off but it just sat there and looked at me.  Eventually a man came from the other direction and moved close enough that it finally took off.

Those big wings get it going quickly.

You do have to admit that it looks a little goofy on the upstroke.

A little farther down the boardwalk a bunch of skimmers came by flying in formation.

The Northern Harrier made a couple of passes for me.

And another shot on the downstroke.

I think it came back around one more time just to make sure that I got a good shot. :-)

Becky found a couple of Reddish Egrets on the north boardwalk that had some coloring that we don't remember seeing before.  A good portion of their bills are pink.  She thought maybe it was connected with breeding.

We stopped for a shot of this flower as we left the boardwalk for the last time this year.

We had sunshine for most of the day but the clouds moved in just before sunset.

Well, that's it for this year's stay at South Padre Island, Texas.  It was especially nice to be here when the weather was so severe in MN.  We checked the forecast and it looks like we're still going to get in on some of the nasty stuff.  It was -7 at our house this morning with wind chill of -20.  It looks like we might run into some nasty weather in Iowa on the way home, hope it's not too severe.  Thanks for sharing our time in Texas, hope some of these pages were entertaining.  Thanks also for the kind comments!  Let's hope we do it again next year...................
